In many ways, Fred Astaire contradicts himself! While he enjoys traveling and adventure (as mentioned in the previous chapter), Astaire can be very slow to move. Stability and security are as important to him as exploring new worlds. Fred Astaire needs to find a place in his life to express both urges: the impulse to take risks and to go where he has never gone before, and the need for order, predictability, and staying with the tried-and-true.

He is a steadfast and patient soul, capable of tremendous devotion, dedication, endurance and constancy. The ability to follow through and stick with things is one of his greatest assets. Once Astaire's course is set, he pursues it tenaciously until it is completed, stubbornly resisting any attempts to sway him from his purpose.

Fred Astaire has a very practical nature; he wants to see concrete, tangible results for his efforts, and he is not one to concoct wild dreams that are unlikely to come into fruition. Most of his "wild dreams" have to do with material achievements, well-being and security, for he has a great love of the physical world and he wants to experience and enjoy it to the full. Though Fred Astaire will work long and persistently, he also has a strong sensual and comfort-loving side, and he wants to enjoy what he has worked for. Fred enjoys being the center of attention and he seeks to shine, to excel, and to be outstanding in some unique way. He is very involved in his own creativity and self-expression, and takes great pleasure in developing and using his special talents, whether these are artistic, athletic, or intellectual. Fred Astaire has a strong sense of pride.

Fred has to overcome considerable hardship in order to fulfill his personal destiny. However, he does have the strength and stamina necessary to do so. Support and helpful guidance from his father or other significant men in his life may well be lacking. In fact, their disapproval of Fred and their harsh criticism are apt to be two of his greatest handicaps, and at times he may feel quite discouraged and alone. But true self-reliance and a solid sense of his own powers may well be the silver lining to that cloud in his life. Fred Astaire needs to learn to follow his own creative impulses and heart's desires, regardless of what his critics or the authorities say.

His deep comprehension and good powers of concentration give Fred Astaire the ability to judge matters wisely and prudently. He is a keen observer and also can be a persuasive speaker. Fred likes to be in control, but needs appreciation and recognition for his efforts.

Fred Astaire has a pleasant and dreamy disposition with considerable romantic imagination. Fred has a strong longing for love, but he does not see others very clearly and may experience many disappointments in his emotional relationships.

His comprehension is exceptional and Fred Astaire reacts to everything very quickly. Astaire shows deep respect for knowledge and feels that he must learn everything there is to know. Studying probably was encouraged early on and Fred Astaire was raised to be successful.
