Bono motivation
Although Bono often appears self-controlled, disciplined, and even something of an ascetic (as described on the previous page), there is also a pleasure-loving sensualist in him that thoroughly enjoys "the good life". He may feel pulled, at times, between saving his hard-earned money and conserving his resources versus indulging himself and appeasing his appetites for pleasure and beauty.
He is a steadfast and patient soul, capable of tremendous devotion, dedication, endurance, and constancy. The ability to follow through and stick with things is one of his greatest assets. Once Bono Vox' course is set, he pursues it tenaciously until it is completed, stubbornly resisting any attempts to sway him from his purpose.
Bono has a very practical nature; he wants to see concrete, tangible results for his efforts, and he is not one for spinning wild dreams that are unlikely to come into fruition. Most of his "wild dreams" have to do with material achievements, well-being, and security, for he has a great love of the physical world and he wants to experience and enjoy it to the full. Though Bono will work long and persistently, he also has a strong sensual and comfort-loving side, and he wants to enjoy what he has worked for. In fact, Bono Vox can be enormously lazy at times and have a tendency to overindulge in good food and other earthly pleasures. Bono also loves the beauty of the natural world and he probably prefers a serene country setting rather than an urban life style.
At heart his needs are simple and he is easy to please. Bono has a strong desire for security, stability, and peace, and will rarely make changes unless he is forced to do so. He is not very demanding emotionally, though he does crave lots of physical closeness and affection. Because of his faithfulness, emotional steadiness, and gentle strength, others often depend upon Bono Vox for support. Though he hates upheaval and sudden changes, Bono usually maintains his poise and equanimity. Bono also has an innate sense of harmonizing with nature, allowing things to grow and unfold in their own time, and the patience to nurture something into being - be it a garden, a child, or some creative project. He makes an excellent parent, especially if he follows his instincts more often than "the experts".
Paul Hewson has three major faults: one is his bullheaded obstinacy. The second is his unwillingness to deviate from his safe, predictable routine. And the third is Bono Vox' tendency to always insist upon realism and undervalue the imaginative, speculative, and fanciful - in other words, Bono lacks the ability to play with ideas and possibilities, and to open his mind to the new.
The urge to learn and to communicate is essential to Bono, and he expresses himself very well through writing, teaching or sharing ideas and information. Bono Vox is persuasive and fluent with language.
Restless and inquisitive, Paul Hewson enjoys being mobile and taking short trips and excursions in order to see for himself what is going on in the world around him.
Realistic and practical, Bono sets goals for himself that are modest enough for him to actually achieve. He is able to tackle long, difficult projects and see them through, for Bono Vox possesses self-discipline, concentration, and perseverance. Bono also has a strong sense of responsibility and is very conscientious in fulfilling his obligations. Often Bono Vox does things because he feels it is expected of him.
Although he takes himself and his responsibilities seriously, there is also a part of Bono that rebels against rules and restrictions and answering to outside authority. Bono Vox can feel torn between conforming or fulfilling his obligations, and breaking free of them. His wilder side will now be described.
Impulsive, restless, and spontaneous, his life is apt to be somewhat unstable and full of sudden changes. Bono is extremely independent and craves excitement, adventure, freedom, and discovery. Bono Vox has a rebellious streak and he often feels he is unusual and different from the mainstream of society. The unorthodox and the novel appeal to him.
He is inclined to feel uncomfortable or restrained in some way in the presence of others and prefer to be alone. Bono is modest and shy in his approach to others and tends to accept more responsibility than he really needs to.
It could be hard for Bono to face up to his mistakes because of his insecurity and self-doubt. His early years may have been undermined by poor relationships with one or both of his parents who may have been ill, weak or alcoholic.
