Vanity approach to life and appearances
The following is a description of Vanity's basic stance toward life, the way others see her, the way Vanity comes across, the face she shows to the world. In the page about motivation you will read about the inner Vanity - her real motivation, which describes the kind of person she is at heart and where her true priorities lie. Study this page and the next one and compare them - there may be significant differences between the two, in which case "the inner Vanity" may not shine through and others may be in for so a few surprises once they get to know Vanity a little better. This page describes the disguise D.D. Winters wears, her role in life, while the page about motivation talks about the real person beneath the disguise.
Vanity meets life head on and throws herself into new experiences with zest and enthusiasm. She is direct, straightforward, assertive, and usually completely aboveboard in all her dealings. Candid and incapable of guile, insincerity or phoniness, Vanity projects a confident and sometimes arrogant façade to others. She often lacks tact and sensitivity, and can be completely oblivious to others' needs, and inadvertently selfish. D.D. Winters is self-reliant and does not depend upon social approval and reinforcement as much as other people do. She likes to be original and does not mind doing it alone. Vanity may feel that she does not fit into groups very well and that she does not naturally blend in and cooperate with others. She likes to be either a leader or a loner.
D.D. Winters is a doer and thrives on freedom, challenge, and activity. She tends to think in clear, black and white terms, and to be somewhat simplistic in her outlook, which enables Vanity to act in a very decisive and self-assured manner. When inspired by an idea, Vanity feels such a sense of urgency and excitement about it that she will often forge ahead and try to implement it in a rather bold but poorly planned and crudely executed way. Patience and careful attention to details are not D.D. Winters' forte. However, she never accepts defeat and will experience brilliant and unprecedented successes and discoveries, as well as painful failures. To Vanity it is far better to make mistakes than to play it safe and never try.
She is scornful of what she sees as weakness or passivity in others and also of the human tendency to imitate and follow. Vanity is not a follower. Others see Vanity as a strong individual and perhaps brash and brazen as well. D.D. Winters presents a strong front to the world and generally does not allow others to see her vulnerable or insecure side.
Despite the fact that her core self is quite distinct from the face the world generally sees, Vanity has a strong desire to be seen and recognized, to be acknowledged, and to have a significant impact on people in her environment. She may do remarkable things in order to be noticed. However, Vanity often does not get the full recognition she yearns for.
Bright, alert, quick of tongue and/or of movement, there is youthfulness about Vanity's manner and appearance regardless of her chronological age. Moreover, Vanity also always appears busy and active, and somewhat restless. D.D. Winters needs mental stimulation from her environment, or she will rapidly get bored.
Vanity comes across as liberal and open-minded. Anything new, innovative, unusual or off the beaten track arouses her interest. D.D. Winters infuses her environment with enthusiasm, new life and excitement. Though not intentionally disruptive, Vanity does enjoy startling or waking people up a bit.
