Vanity in Relationships
Secretive and inclined to brooding silences, it is difficult for others to really know her inner core, for Vanity only trusts and opens herself to a select few. Allowing herself to be vulnerable and to relinquish control in relationships is not easy for D.D. Winters.
Vanity has intense, passionate loves and hates and is a jealously loyal and protective friend - or a fearsome foe. Vanity has a nasty habit of holding onto past hurts, resentments and guilt - and to keep such feelings to herself. It is important for Vanity to learn to forgive and let go, as well as to express her feelings openly and directly, rather than hiding or repressing them.
She is not content with superficial appearances and is always probing beneath the surface of things for hidden motives. Vanity has a great deal of emotional depth.
D.D. Winters depends a great deal upon other people for emotional support and she has a large "family" of friends who care about her and treat her as kin. The women in Vanity's life are particularly important to her, and her relationships with them have a powerful impact on her sense of security and happiness. Vanity may be overly dependent and unsure of herself without a close partner.
Vanity takes offense rather quickly and her instincts are to fight, defend or act first, and ask questions later. She has a tendency for impatience, irritability and outbursts of temper, especially in response to minor frustrations. When she is not actively involved, she is not comfortable. Vanity actually prefers a rather rambunctious, feisty, competitive atmosphere to a peaceful one.
Vanity craves excitement, change and discovery, and cannot tolerate a routine or lifestyle that offers little in the way of surprise or challenge. Excitable, spontaneous and enthusiastic about anything new, she may be perceived by others as being too impulsive, especially in personal relationships. It is not easy for Vanity to make or keep commitments, since she does not know how she will be feeling from one day to the next. Emotional freedom is very important to D.D. Winters. Her domestic life may be very unstable - but D.D. Winters likes it that way.
Although Vanity was portrayed above as being assertive and combative, she also has a diametrically opposed tendency - namely the urge to escape all contention and ugliness. This may mellow Vanity's fiery reactions somewhat, or she may seesaw between the two. Her softer side is described in the following paragraphs.
She is a sensitive soul and a dreamer who is very much attuned to the world of imagination and fantasy. Vanity often retreats into her own inner world in order to escape the harshness of everyday living in the "real world". Gentle and often rather passive as well, she will not fight or assert herself, even when she needs to. Vanity is very sympathetic and somewhat naive emotionally and must guard against being taken advantage of.
She is definitely not one to wear her heart on her sleeve. Vanity cares very much about others' opinions and craves love and appreciation as much as anyone - however one would never know it from D.D. Winters' reserved and seemingly detached demeanor. Casual, superficial relationships do not interest Vanity at all. She is cautious and serious about love and really desires deep, genuine, lasting relationships. Vanity is old-fashioned about courtship and love relationships, and will remain faithful to her loved one in good times and in bad.
Vanity may be attracted to older persons who are emotionally mature and reliable and can provide the security Vanity desires.
Promoting beauty, the arts or entertainment can make Vanity very happy. Vanity wants to contribute something positive and loving to the world at large and she wants to be recognized for her beauty, artistic gifts or loving generosity. Vanity may be "married to" her work - namely she may be more involved in her career than in her private life. D.D. Winters is a natural host or diplomat.
Vanity loves to laugh, celebrate and enjoy herself with her companions. Emotionally open and easygoing, Vanity considers just about anyone a friend or potential friend. Her good humor and friendliness make her quite popular and well liked. At times, Vanity overdoes the festivities, but she rarely regrets it.
Vanity tends to be somewhat hypocritical and artificial and may even fool herself at times. Her desires are likely to be a bit unrealistic and she may tries to hide her deception from others as well as from herself.
