Samuel Beckett motivation
Behind Beckett's rather secretive and guarded exterior (as described on the previous page), he is very competitive, dynamic and driven. This aspect of Beckett's character is described in more detail in this chapter.
He is a person who thrives on challenge, and he often feels that he must battle his way through life, relying on no one and nothing but his own strength, intelligence and courage. Samuel Beckett believes in being totally honest, true to himself and his own vision and convictions, even if it means standing alone. Honesty, integrity, personal honor and authenticity are Beckett's gods, and he has no sympathy for weakness of character in others.
Samuel Beckett craves the freedom to do things in his own way, and he works very well independently. Cooperating with others or carrying out another's will is not his style. Samuel likes to be the chief - or to go it alone.
Samuel Beckett loves action and if others are settling down into a nice, comfortable little rut, then he is always ready to stir things up, do something new, make changes and introduce some fresh blood. Routine and sameness are tantamount to death for him. He is not afraid of trying something that has never been done before, and even though he may sometimes be perceived as a fool, Samuel Beckett also discovers, invents and initiates things that others will later emulate. Taking risks and following his own star are the breath of life for Beckett, and he wilts (or gets very frustrated and angry) if he cannot do this.
He is spontaneous, impulsive, direct, enthusiastic and assertive. Samuel Beckett believes in the power of positive thinking and positive action, and he perceives himself as a strong, even invincible, person. Samuel Beckett hates being ill or in a position of dependency. Accepting his own human limitations and emotional needs is often difficult for him.
He is basically aggressive in his attitudes and less adept at relating to others, picking up on subtle messages and nuances, listening, nurturing and harmonizing. He is often so fired up about his own projects or goals that he inadvertently runs over or ignores other people's feelings and interests. Being receptive and appreciative of others' contributions, ideas and feelings would be highly instrumental in improving Beckett's relationships. His impatience to get on with things causes Samuel Beckett to be rather insensitive, thereby alienating others unnecessarily. He also frequently tries to accomplish his goals through anger or temper tantrums. Samuel Beckett would gain much by learning to slow down, relax and sometimes just let things be, however his energetic, restless nature rarely allows Samuel Beckett to do so.
His energies are directed toward either honing his professional techniques, skills and abilities or "perfecting", refining, and improving himself as a person. Critical analysis and attention to minute detail are intrinsic in either process. Samuel Beckett is highly motivated to strive for a state of wholeness or optimal functioning and he is quite a perfectionist!
Beckett can easily become overly identified or involved with the task he performs, with his work, or with his own health and "growth process".
Samuel Beckett feels that he has the support of his family or others in his environment for his creative efforts and personal goals, which enables him to act with confidence. He is able to satisfy both his need to be an individual and his need for caring relationships and a sense of belonging. He is in harmony with himself and is therefore an effective individual.
Samuel Beckett undergoes deep, transformative changes in his life with relative ease and a minimum of conscious resistance. Because he does not avoid the depths, Beckett has access to a lot of personal power and strength. Without realizing it or seeking it, Samuel is apt to have quite a potent effect on the people he comes into contact with, even superficially. Others sense that Samuel Beckett is a force to be reckoned with.
Samuel Beckett feels spiritually bonded with his friends, partners or associates. He is likely to have a good rapport and harmony in his relationships with the opposite sex and enjoys spending time with his partner.
Beckett always seems to find the right words to verbalize his feelings, especially in regard to love and friendship. Samuel Beckett also has a keen sense of beauty and he probably appreciates art, music or poetry.
He may lack direction and drive and tends to compare himself unfavorably to others. Beckett alternates between caution and unrealistic expectations and lets others expect too much of him. But Samuel Beckett plods forward steadily, reaching success later in life.
