R. Kelly challenges and difficulties
R. Kelly often has a sense of longing or homesickness for something he cannot name or specify, and he may have both: great attraction toward, and fear of, mysticism and parapsychology.
Overcoming feelings of fear, guilt, anxiety, loneliness, or oversensitivity is an important task for Kelly.
He may have nebulous but ever-present guilt and fears that are difficult to pinpoint or eradicate. It is as if R. Kelly does not trust Life itself, and is always seeking ways to defend himself from its dangers and its unknowns. R. Kelly must learn to overcome his ingrained habit of discouragement and anxiety, and to see the world more as a friendly place than as a treacherous one.
R. Kelly seesaws between playing it safe, and doing something unique and original, between self-control and letting loose, between being a responsible adult and a rebellious adolescent, between what Robert has to or should do and what his spontaneous impulses tell him to do. All of this creates enormous inner tension as well as friction with people in his environment. R. Kelly may, for instance, bitterly resent government or authority figures who "crush his individuality", yet ignore his obligations and responsibilities, thus ensuring that they will pursue him. Learning to give each side its due is an ongoing challenge for Kelly.
R. Kelly feels that he must work very hard and struggle against tremendous odds that impede his chances of fulfilling his life's ambitions. Robert may adopt a very hard, cynical, or nihilistic attitude that will only drag him down further. There are major problems with his father or figures of authority. R. Kelly may fail simply to spite "them", without realizing that he is primarily hurting himself. If he can overcome his feelings of loneliness, bitterness or isolation, and direct his energies toward constructive endeavors, Kelly can be immensely effective because of his tremendous tenacity and potential for achievement.
Around others Kelly is somewhat humble and shy and prefer to be by himself. R. Kelly tends to limit his relationships with others and associates only with like-minded people. He is inclined to be cool and reserved even toward those he loves.
Now we will discuss patterns of behavior which R. Kelly instinctively and habitually reverts to when under stress - a mostly subconscious process that he is apt to over indulge in because it is so familiar and hence easy for him. The direction R. Kelly needs to follow in order to develop balance, greater awareness, and wholeness is also described.
R. Kelly benefits by becoming more aware of the rhythm of the seasons and the natural world, learning to slow down and allow life to unfold in its own time. Nurturing a garden, a child, or some other living, growing thing gives R. Kelly a sense of inner balance.
R. Kelly has a tendency to be deeply suspicious, to not take anything at face value and to see hidden agendas and dark motives even where none exist! Life does not have to be a constant conflict... Robert needs to learn to accept things as they are.
Kelly also needs to develop patience, peace and stability by grounding himself in his daily work and behaving consistently and reliably towards others.
It is in his relationships with others that he is most likely to wrestle with these issues. There is a dynamic balance (or conflict) within R. Kelly between acting spontaneously and being true to himself versus modifying himself or his behavior to suit others. R. Kelly seesaws between being inordinately concerned with his self to being overly conciliatory and concerned with others' needs, rights, or opinions about him. Learning to act authentically and forthrightly regardless of possible consequences is Kelly's task.
