John Derek motivation
Although he can appear freewheeling, independent, and, at times, inconsistent (as mentioned in the previous chapter), at heart he is very loyal and constant. John Derek possesses a certain steadiness and firmness of will that may not be obvious to others until they get to know John well.
Proud and intensely individual, John Derek really wants to stand out, to be the very best he can be, and to be recognized and appreciated for his unique contributions. Doing something well and being respected for it is extremely important to him, and he cannot tolerate being relegated to the background, taking orders from others, or being "just one of the team". John Derek must put his personal stamp on whatever he does, and direct his own course in life. John Derek needs to have a place where he can shine, express himself creatively, and be the one in charge.
John has big dreams and the determination, spirit, vitality and enthusiasm to realize them. John Derek also has a noble, romantic heart, and a love of the dramatic, colorful, and extravagant.
For John Derek, it is true that "the entire world's a stage" and he secretly (or perhaps not so secretly) desires to be the star or hero of the play. John wants to be great and to receive the love and applause of an adoring audience, even if the "audience" is just one other special person. He needs someone to believe in him and his dreams. Though Derek appears radiantly self-confident and independent, he is actually very dependent on the affirmation, love and recognition of others. He cannot bear going unnoticed or unappreciated.
John Derek also loves wholeheartedly and generously and really knows how to make the person he loves feel special. John Derek loves the magic of "being in love" and knows how to keep the romance alive in his relationships. He is also immensely loyal and will defend his loved ones and stand by them to the end - as long as they never offend his pride or betray his trust. However, John Derek likes to be the strong one in his relationships and he really does not share the leading role very easily. Ideally, John needs to find a person who is as strong-willed as he is, but who will not try to dominate or compete with him.
Derek's strengths are his zest and love for life, his creative power and his warm and generous heart. His primary fault is his tendency to be very egocentric, and so concerned with the impression he is making and with his own creative self-expression that he forgets there is another, larger world that does not revolve around him.
World travel, foreign cultures, and studies which expand his intellectual horizons and broaden his understanding of the world are very attractive to Derek.
John Derek has a philosophical turn of mind and is concerned with seeking answers to the big questions of life or getting the overview of any situation. Abstract concepts and/or plans for the future occupy his mind much of the time.
John Derek aims high, dreams big, and has a tremendous sense of what he is capable of achieving. Overconfidence, grandiosity, lack of humility and/or extreme discontent in modest circumstances may be his faults. Generally, however, Derek's great expectations and enterprising spirit lead to success. Business, especially when there is an element of risk and speculation involved, is ideally suited to John.
However he also has a more somber side, which keeps Derek's optimism from becoming ungrounded or overblown. John Derek tends to seesaw between his faith, vision and high aspirations, and his caution and realism (or fear!). He cannot and does not rely on good luck or grace alone, and he accepts the need for hard work. His skeptical or "somber" side is described below.
He is often plagued by feelings of personal inadequacy, inhibitions and self-doubt. John Derek has a cautious, realistic attitude toward life and is highly responsible and disciplined with regard to his obligations and duties. John Derek tends to work and struggle more than necessary and to take himself too seriously.
While he is realistic and conscientious (or overly conscientious), as described above, John Derek also has an otherworldly, dreamy, or mystically-inclined side, as described below.
Sensitive and imaginative, he is attracted to artistic and creative pursuits and to mysticism. John Derek is impressionable and receptive, and often has experiences that are unusual and unexplainable by the rational mind. John has an abundance of dreams, visions and longings, but does not always have the concentrated will and stamina to make them materialize. Gentle, idealistic and peace loving, John often seeks to avoid the harsh realities of life. John has an ethereal quality about him.
He is a bit impulsive and excitable and wants things done quickly. John Derek tends to be very impatient with anyone who is slower or less energetic than he is. Derek will fight for what he wants but should guard against mishaps or accidents.
