J. K. Rowling general characteristics
J. K. Rowling's fundamental needs, values, and orientation towards life are symbolized by the four astrological elements. Each person has their own unique balance of these four basic energies: fire (warmth, inspiration, enthusiasm), earth (practicality, realism, material interests), air (social and intellectual qualities), and water (emotional needs and feelings).
Rowling's "elemental make-up" is described below. Remember that most people are "unbalanced" or lopsided, and if Joanne is lacking or deficient in a certain element (or elements), it simply means that she needs to consciously develop that particular aspect in order to appreciate and/or work harder in that dimension of life.
Sometimes we overestimate the element that we are least endowed with, sensing it as a lack within ourselves, but more often we neglect or ignore it. The qualities described below will be reiterated and explained in more detail in the following pages.
J. K. Rowling often overlooks, ignores, or seems oblivious to the emotional aspects of a situation, focusing instead on "what needs to be done" in a straightforward and somewhat impersonal way. Rowling can seem unfeeling or even callous. She is actually more likely to simply be uncomfortable and uncertain as to how to respond when confronted with a great outpouring of emotion or with needs that are emotional and subtle rather than physical and tangible.
She also tends to distrust feelings, intuitive perceptions, or anything outside the realm of the concrete and rational. In other words, if Rowling cannot see it or touch it, she is likely to discount it.
Unless J. K. Rowling learns to appreciate and open up to her own and others' feelings and inner experience, she is likely to live a rather dry existence, missing out on much of the richness of deep personal relationships and emotional intimacy.
J. K. Rowling should beware of allowing her responsibilities or work to dominate her life to the extent that she forgets to emotionally nourish herself and her loved ones.
As we shall see in Chapter 3, J. K. Rowling also has a fiery, energetic side, which provides balance and the opportunity for Joanne to apply her practical nature in creative, interesting ways. Sometimes, however, her very sensible, realistic, practical ways prevent J. K. Rowling from expressing the energy and wild dreams burning inside.
Although fundamentally realistic, with a definite conservative bent, J. K. Rowling comes across as rather liberal and open-minded, as you will read in the next chapter. Her apparent tolerance for varying points of view is limited, however, to those that seem well-grounded and workable to her.
