Gower Champion motivation
At heart he is quite different from what his exuberant, freewheeling manner (described in the previous chapter) would suggest. Although Gower Champion gets restless and like to move around, home is also very important to him, and he craves security and familiarity (as described in more detail below). At times he may feel torn between his craving for the comfortable and familiar versus a taste for the foreign and the unknown. Champion will need to find a place in his life for these two contradictory impulses.
Gower has powerful emotional attachments to the past, his family, his childhood, places he associates with safety and security, and his beginnings. It is very important to Champion to maintain a connection with his roots and heritage and keep family bonds strong. Loyal, devoted, and sentimental, Champion tends to cling to whatever is dear to him - be it a person, a familiar place, or a cherished possession.
He is sympathetic, nurturing, supportive and very sensitive to the emotional needs of other people. Gower likes to be needed and to care for others, and he often worries about the people he loves. Gower Champion has a very strong need for a sense of belonging and acceptance, and much of his life centers on his home. He is more concerned about people and their feelings than with power, achievement, or position in society. Kindness, consideration and tenderness are more meaningful to Gower Champion than any sort of honor the world can bestow.
He is primarily emotional and his views are often dominated by his feelings and his own personal, subjective experiences, rather than reason, logic or abstract principles. It is difficult for him to judge situations fairly and objectively because his personal sympathies and loyalties usually factor in. Gower Champion takes things very personally and sometimes builds a wall around himself to shield himself from pain and rejection. Gower Champion feels rather shy and vulnerable at heart. He also tends to be moody and experiences frequent mood swings. Gower Champion needs to have a place and time in his life to withdraw, introspect, dream and replenish himself; otherwise Gower Champion becomes cranky and unhappy with those around him.
Gower Champion functions in an instinctive, irrational manner and likes to immerse himself in creative activities where he can express his feelings, imagination and instincts. Champion often loves to cook, since it can be both creative and a way to nurture and nourish others. Gower Champion also has a great affinity for music, because it evokes and communicates feelings that may be difficult or impossible to put into words.
His compassion, sensitivity, and imagination are Champion's strong points. His faults include an inability to let go of the past and move forward, clannishness and prejudice, and a tendency for self-pity when facing hardship.
Gower Champion invests a tremendous amount of his creative energy into his relationships with others, particularly his marriage or other close partnerships. Gower feels that he needs others in order to be all that he can be, and he is disinclined to solitary activities and endeavors.
Working with people on a one-to-one basis to promote mutual understanding, harmony, and satisfaction is an area in which Gower Champion can really excel. Counseling or negotiating are talents of his.
There is an ongoing, subtle conflict within Gower Champion between his conscious attitudes and aspirations and his deeper emotional and subconscious beliefs, needs and feelings. This creates considerable inner stress and sometimes paralyzing indecision, mostly due to the fact that Gower may be trying to follow a path that is at odds with his subconscious desires. Chronic tightness or tension in his body may well be a signal that Gower Champion is denying or suppressing the messages from his subconscious or emotional self.
Ideally, Gower Champion will learn to accept and express these two different sides of himself. Should he fail to do so, Champion is likely to be drawn into many relationships with people who reflect his denied or repressed qualities and seem to make his life difficult. (Also read chapter 4 in order to get a better picture of the duality described here.)
He is assertive, energetic, active, courageous and vital. Gower Champion has a very strong physical drive that expresses itself as sexuality and passion, a desire to compete with others, and a tendency to fight. Gower Champion has a victorious spirit and the will to win.
Gower Champion tends to become excited and upset at the slightest cause, generating tension with others. Gower also could encounter strange experiences or coincidences with others. He may have a feeling of being different than others and he wants to be his own person.
Gower Champion seems to have an emotional and physical unrest and he always have to be on the move. Gower could find it difficult to control himself and he tends to get angry and upset easily. Eccentric and individualistic, he can create a stir wherever he goes.
