Carl Jung approach to life and appearances
The following is a description of Carl's basic stance toward life, the way others see him, the way Carl Jung comes across, the face he shows to the world. In the page about motivation you will read about the inner Carl Jung - his real motivation, which describes the kind of person he is at heart and where his true priorities lie. Study this page and the next one and compare them - there may be significant differences between the two, in which case "the inner Carl Jung" may not shine through and others may be in for so a few surprises once they get to know Carl a little better. This page describes the disguise Jung wears, his role in life, while the page about motivation talks about the real person beneath the disguise.
Forward-looking and progressive, he is a person who supports change, innovation, and human advancement, and Carl Jung is often strongly committed to a humanitarian cause or social improvement. He is extremely aware of the interrelations between all people, and is always projecting personal issues unto a greater whole. Jung sees the political or social ramifications of personal actions, and he wishes to contribute something of value to the world, or at least to his community or group.
The ideals of equality, fairness, human rights, brotherhood, and social justice color Carl's whole outlook and approach to life. He is truly interested in the good of the whole and not only his own personal well-being.
Sometimes he may overlook or ignore his own and others' personal needs, desires, and feelings, especially if they do not conform to his ideals of how one should feel or act. Though he has little patience for conservative narrow-mindedness, Carl Jung himself is sometimes dogmatic about his beliefs and ideologies.
He is attracted to the avant-garde, the latest advances in human thought and development, and he is eclectic and cosmopolitan in his tastes. He may consider himself a "global citizen" rather than claiming a narrow, limited identification based on nationality, race, familial heritage, etc. Carl Jung is strongly influenced by his peer group and the flavor of the times in which he grew up, more so than by parental or family influences. He is involved and active in groups, community efforts, as well as cultural and progressive movements.
On a personal level, Carl Jung is friendly and expresses a kind of impersonal good will towards others. Jung probably has many acquaintances but few really close friends, and much of Jung's relationships with others are based on a sharing of common ideals and principles, rather than on emotional ties. Others see Carl Jung as a good friend and a comrade who is objective, fair and rather detached emotionally. Carl does not often show his emotions, and may be unsure about how to respond to others' emotional expression, for he tends to be very rational.
Carl Jung is also very independent and refuses to be possessed by any individual. Carl Jung is not comfortable with traditional sexual roles and is inclined to have "liberated" views about marriage, relationships, sharing of child rearing responsibilities, etc. Carl Jung needs to have a life outside of the personal, domestic sphere and to be involved with people on a broader scale. The nurturing of family ties, and close, deep, personal relationships may take a back seat to Jung's work or outside social activities.
Jung draws much of his energy and sense of self from his relationships with others. He is inextricably connected with the significant others in his life; Carl Jung may feel at a loss without them, even if he appears to be the powerful or dominant person in the relationship. Carl appears self-assured - as long as he is secure in the important relationships in his life.
Carl Jung is extremely sensitive to all of the incoming impressions and energies around him, and at times he can be overcome or dominated by more forceful personalities. Learning to establish clear boundaries is important for him, as Carl Jung tends to become enmeshed emotionally and/or psychically with whomever he is with. He may have the chameleon's trait of seeming to become the people or person he is with the most.
He is charming and friendly to everyone, but may prefer more superficial and frequently changing relationships with people rather than steady and lasting friendships. Some of his meetings with others could come about suddenly.
