Behind Derek's forthright and candid manner described in the previous chapter, there is a very private, even secretive, person. She is more complex and keeps more inside than her direct, straightforward appearance would suggest.

Quiet, deep, emotionally complex and intensely private, she is not a person who is easy to get to know and understand. Bo Derek is extremely sensitive but disinclined to show it, and she only allows a special few into her inner world. Like a wary animal, she is cautious and mistrustful of those she does not know until "he sniffs them out". She is highly instinctive and intuitive. Bo Derek usually has a strong, immediate gut reaction to people, even though she may be unable to clearly articulate why she feels the way she does. Her feelings and perceptions go deeper than words.

Bo Derek also has a powerful need for deep emotional relationships and she forms very intense love bonds and attachments. She is possessive and often jealous of anyone or anything that she perceives as a threat to her relationship with someone she loves. Appearing successful and attractive to the public is important to her. Bo Derek probably enjoys wearing stylish clothes and modern jewelry. She tends to seek admiration from others and social acceptance is necessary to Bo's well-being.

Her physical energy is strong and Bo Derek is able to make an extra effort and work quite hard at any task she wants to do. Derek can act quickly and she gets a great deal accomplished in a hurry. But Bo Derek also has a tendency to be reckless and accident-prone.
