Alan Wilder drive and ambition
Alan Wilder avoids direct confrontation as much as possible and is uncomfortable with aggressiveness, competition and personal power. His ego drive is not very dominant and Wilder is not especially ambitious or eager to push his way to the top. He may feel inadequate in situations that call for strong, forceful action. The only instance in which Alan Wilder will really fight is when he senses that his loved ones - or something dear to him- are being jeopardized, in which case he is a fierce defender. Alan Wilder has a very strong protective side. He acts on impulse and instinct and may lash out at anyone he perceives as threatening to Alan's home or family. However, Alan Wilder will rarely initiate a confrontation. His goals also tend to be very personal and centered on family closeness and inner satisfaction rather than worldly achievement.
He is sensitive to stress and does not handle a high-pressured, competitive atmosphere very well. Alan Wilder is very touchy, irritable and difficult to live with when there are many demands or stressful situations at work. His energy level varies and is very dependent on the emotional harmony (or lack thereof) in his home. A supportive partner is very instrumental in helping Wilder to achieve his goals and desires.
Wilder plays vigorously and enjoys competitive games and physical rough-and-tumble activities. Athletics and/or physical activities have great appeal for him. Alan Wilder takes the initiative in sports and also in romantic relationships: he is ardent in pursuing anything he desires.
He abounds with self-confidence and vitality and Alan Wilder believes he can do just about anything he wants to. Alan has an enterprising spirit, a good sense of timing and the ability to sense what will succeed and what will not. Wilder usually makes fortunate work or business decisions. He enjoys healthy competition and has a rather playful, good-humored attitude toward it. Alan Wilder mostly competes with himself to see how far he can go or how much he can accomplish. Alan likes to keep stretching his limits.
His competitive drive and lofty ambitions (commented upon earlier) feed on either intense spiritual idealism or a rather inflated, grandiose idea of what Alan Wilder can actually accomplish. His energy level is apt to fluctuate from being very high, as noted earlier, to rather low, as mentioned in the following paragraphs.
Ordinary life often seems drab and uninteresting to Alan and he must have something that stirs his imagination - a vision or ideal or dream to motivate him. Alan Wilder has a strong urge to act out his fantasies or to live his dream, and Alan Wilder will act where others merely talk or dream. Artistic creation, drama or other areas in which Wilder can express himself imaginatively are excellent for him.
Work that only serves his own narrow personal interests does not satisfy Alan Wilder. He may lack the competitive edge, the fighting spirit, the "me first" attitude that is often required for material advancement and success. He also tends to either overestimate or underestimate his own power and abilities.
Wilder dedicates himself wholeheartedly to a cause, makes a great deal of sacrifices and does away with superfluous activities and interests. Others find his approach too severe and are unwilling to go along with Alan Wilder under the difficult circumstances that he is willing to tolerate. His determination and capacity for self-denial often help Wilder get through the rough spots and achieve the goal he is aiming for.
Wilder is able to do his work and take responsibility for overcoming his own problems and challenges in life, while at the same time being open to spiritual comfort, aid and guidance. A good balance between being well-grounded and being receptive to spirit or the inner world is working in Alan's favor. Enjoying simplicity and cultivating peace enable Alan Wilder to evolve and to work through his challenges.
Sometimes his emotional or romantic interests detract Alan Wilder from his professional progress and the achievement of his long-range goals. Friendship with colleagues and especially superiors may be lacking, or prove to be a detriment to Wilder in a roundabout way. It seems that Alan must choose either business or pleasure - work or love. These two arenas simply do not go together very well for him.
