Ursula Thiess motivation
In many ways, Ursula Thiess contradicts herself! While she enjoys traveling and adventure (as mentioned in the previous chapter), Thiess can be very slow to move. Stability and security are as important to her as exploring new worlds. Ursula Thiess needs to find a place in her life to express both urges: the impulse to take risks and to go where she has never gone before, and the need for order, predictability, and staying with the tried-and-true.
She is a steadfast and patient soul, capable of tremendous devotion, dedication, endurance and constancy. The ability to follow through and stick with things is one of her greatest assets. Once Thiess' course is set, she pursues it tenaciously until it is completed, stubbornly resisting any attempts to sway her from her purpose.
Ursula Thiess has a very practical nature; she wants to see concrete, tangible results for her efforts, and she is not one to concoct wild dreams that are unlikely to come into fruition. Most of her "wild dreams" have to do with material achievements, well-being and security, for she has a great love of the physical world and she wants to experience and enjoy it to the full. Though Ursula Thiess will work long and persistently, she also has a strong sensual and comfort-loving side, and she wants to enjoy what she has worked for. In fact, Thiess can be enormously lazy at times and has a tendency to overindulge in good food and other earthly pleasures. Ursula Thiess also loves the beauty of the natural world and she probably prefers a serene country setting to an urban life style.
Basically, her needs are simple and she is easy to please. Ursula Thiess has a strong desire for security, stability and peace, and will rarely make changes unless she is forced to do so. She is not very demanding emotionally, though she does crave a great deal of physical closeness and affection. Because of her faithfulness, emotional steadfastness and gentle strength, others often depend upon Thiess for support. Though she hates upheaval and sudden changes, Ursula Thiess usually maintains her poise and equanimity. Ursula Thiess also has an innate sense of harmony with nature, allowing things to grow and unfold in their own time and the patience to nurture something into being - be it a garden, a child, or a creative project. She makes an excellent parent, especially if she follows her instincts more often than "the experts".
Ursula has three major faults: one is her bullheaded obstinacy. The second is her unwillingness to deviate from her safe, predictable routine. And the third is Thiess' tendency to always insist upon realism and undervalue the imaginative, speculative, and fanciful - in other words, Ursula Thiess lacks the ability to play with ideas and possibilities, and to open her mind to new horizons.
Her energies are directed toward either honing her professional techniques, skills and abilities or "perfecting", refining, and improving herself as a person. Critical analysis and attention to minute detail are intrinsic in either process. Ursula Thiess is highly motivated to strive for a state of wholeness or optimal functioning and she is quite a perfectionist!
Thiess can easily become overly identified or involved with the task she performs, with her work, or with her own health and "growth process".
Ursula has to overcome considerable hardship in order to fulfill her personal destiny. However, she has the strength and stamina necessary to do so. Support and helpful guidance from her father or other significant men in her life may well be lacking. In fact, their disapproval of Ursula and their harsh criticism are apt to be two of her greatest handicaps, and at times she may feel quite discouraged and alone. But true self-reliance and a solid sense of her own powers may well be the silver lining to that cloud in her life. Ursula Thiess needs to learn to follow her own creative impulses and heart's desires, regardless of what her critics or the authorities may say.
Although she takes herself and her responsibilities seriously, there is also a part of Ursula Thiess that rebels against rules and restrictions and the need to contend with outside authority. Thiess can feel torn between conforming to the rules or fulfilling her obligations, and breaking free of them. Her wilder side will now be described.
She is an original! Ursula Thiess radiates a sort of electrical excitement about the things she is interested in, and conveys this to others, but she also gets bored rather quickly. Ursula does not mind being a bit unusual or breaking a few rules either.
