Spencer Tracy motivation
Behind Tracy's rather pragmatic, hardheaded exterior (mentioned in the previous chapter), he is an adventurer and a risk-taker at heart. His cool, conservative manner masks a much more fiery core.
He is a person who thrives on challenge, and he often feels that he must battle his way through life, relying on no one and nothing but his own strength, intelligence and courage. Spencer Tracy believes in being totally honest, true to himself and his own vision and convictions, even if it means standing alone. Honesty, integrity, personal honor and authenticity are Tracy's gods, and he has no sympathy for weakness of character in others.
Spencer Tracy craves the freedom to do things in his own way, and he works very well independently. Cooperating with others or carrying out another's will is not his style. Spencer likes to be the chief - or to go it alone.
Spencer Tracy loves action and if others are settling down into a nice, comfortable little rut, then he is always ready to stir things up, do something new, make changes and introduce some fresh blood. Routine and sameness are tantamount to death for him. He is not afraid of trying something that has never been done before, and even though he may sometimes be perceived as a fool, Spencer Tracy also discovers, invents and initiates things that others will later emulate. Taking risks and following his own star are the breath of life for Tracy, and he wilts (or gets very frustrated and angry) if he cannot do this.
He is spontaneous, impulsive, direct, enthusiastic and assertive. Spencer Tracy believes in the power of positive thinking and positive action, and he perceives himself as a strong, even invincible, person. Spencer Tracy hates being ill or in a position of dependency. Accepting his own human limitations and emotional needs is often difficult for him.
He is basically aggressive in his attitudes and less adept at relating to others, picking up on subtle messages and nuances, listening, nurturing and harmonizing. He is often so fired up about his own projects or goals that he inadvertently runs over or ignores other people's feelings and interests. Being receptive and appreciative of others' contributions, ideas and feelings would be highly instrumental in improving Tracy's relationships. His impatience to get on with things causes Spencer Tracy to be rather insensitive, thereby alienating others unnecessarily. He also frequently tries to accomplish his goals through anger or temper tantrums. Spencer Tracy would gain much by learning to slow down, relax and sometimes just let things be, however his energetic, restless nature rarely allows Spencer Tracy to do so.
Ownership gives Spencer Tracy a sense of security, and he has a strong attachment to his possessions. Spencer also has a natural instinct or understanding of economics, finance, trade, and appraising the value of merchandise.
Spencer has lofty aspirations but does not struggle or labor to achieve them. His self-confidence and inner harmony attract success and benefit him in an almost magical way. His optimism and cheerful generosity also win Tracy many allies and successes in life.
The unusual and unorthodox appeal to Tracy, and he does not allow tradition, convention or other people's expectations to dictate how he is going to live his life. Spencer Tracy craves freedom, adventure, excitement and discovery, and is not afraid of change. Spencer Tracy possesses inventive and creative genius.
Spencer Tracy undergoes deep, transformative changes in his life with relative ease and a minimum of conscious resistance. Because he does not avoid the depths, Tracy has access to a lot of personal power and strength. Without realizing it or seeking it, Spencer is apt to have quite a potent effect on the people he comes into contact with, even superficially. Others sense that Spencer Tracy is a force to be reckoned with.
