Paul Tillich motivation
As described in the previous chapter, Paul Tillich instinctively protects, nurtures and supports others, and as discussed below, he loves to be a leader. The combination of these two sides of Tillich results in his being a good leader of his family, or any club or group to which he belongs. Paul Tillich treats people with a lot of personal attention and care and is appreciated as a result.
He also often takes things too personally and many times Paul Tillich thinks that things are directed at him personally when they are not.
Behind Tillich's rather gentle, soft appearance he is very willful and stubborn, a surprise to people as they get to know him better.
Proud and intensely individual, Paul Tillich really wants to stand out, to be the very best he can be, and to be recognized and appreciated for his unique contributions. Doing something well and being respected for it is extremely important to him, and he cannot tolerate being relegated to the background, taking orders from others, or being "just one of the team". Paul Tillich must put his personal stamp on whatever he does, and direct his own course in life. Paul Tillich needs to have a place where he can shine, express himself creatively, and be the one in charge.
Paul has big dreams and the determination, spirit, vitality and enthusiasm to realize them. Paul Tillich also has a noble, romantic heart, and a love of the dramatic, colorful, and extravagant.
For Paul Tillich, it is true that "the entire world's a stage" and he secretly (or perhaps not so secretly) desires to be the star or hero of the play. Paul wants to be great and to receive the love and applause of an adoring audience, even if the "audience" is just one other special person. He needs someone to believe in him and his dreams. Though Tillich appears radiantly self-confident and independent, he is actually very dependent on the affirmation, love and recognition of others. He cannot bear going unnoticed or unappreciated.
Paul Tillich also loves wholeheartedly and generously and really knows how to make the person he loves feel special. Paul Tillich loves the magic of "being in love" and knows how to keep the romance alive in his relationships. He is also immensely loyal and will defend his loved ones and stand by them to the end - as long as they never offend his pride or betray his trust. However, Paul Tillich likes to be the strong one in his relationships and he really does not share the leading role very easily. Ideally, Paul needs to find a person who is as strong-willed as he is, but who will not try to dominate or compete with him.
Tillich's strengths are his zest and love for life, his creative power and his warm and generous heart. His primary fault is his tendency to be very egocentric, and so concerned with the impression he is making and with his own creative self-expression that he forgets there is another, larger world that does not revolve around him.
The urge to learn and to communicate is essential to Paul Tillich, and he expresses himself very well through writing, teaching or sharing ideas and information. Tillich is persuasive and fluent with language.
Restless and inquisitive, Paul enjoys being mobile and taking short trips and excursions in order to see for himself what is going on in the world around him.
Paul Tillich tends to see things from his perspective only and to be rather subjective. He also enjoys talking and expressing his views but does not always listen as well. Paul Tillich has a clear mind, a love of learning and new experiences, and he needs constant mental stimulation and activity.
Paul Tillich feels that he has the support of his family or others in his environment for his creative efforts and personal goals, which enables him to act with confidence. He is able to satisfy both his need to be an individual and his need for caring relationships and a sense of belonging. He is in harmony with himself and is therefore an effective individual.
Tillich can be an inspiring leader of a team or group effort. His dynamism and energy evokes the same in others, and he sees healthy competition between people as a plus. Generally, Paul Tillich enjoys fine health as well.
Along with his energy and drive, Paul Tillich has high ideals and an active fantasy life. There is a dreamer and an idealist in Tillich, as well as a doer and a fighter. Paul wants to win but not at the expense of others, and this may be somewhat of a dilemma for him.
Paul is extremely sensitive and imaginative, and he can get lost in his dreams, fantasies and visions. He is attracted to artistic and creative pursuits, as well as to the world of color, beauty, and emotion. Paul Tillich is also drawn to mysticism and he has deep spiritual aspirations and yearnings. Gentle and peace loving, Tillich may lack the will and competitive spirit needed to make his way in the world. He is often impractical and may seek to avoid or escape the harsh realities of life.
He may lack direction and drive and tends to compare himself unfavorably to others. Tillich alternates between caution and unrealistic expectations and lets others expect too much of him. But Paul Tillich plods forward steadily, reaching success later in life.
Tillich tends to be in a constant state of tension and seems to look for avenues to test his strength. Paul Tillich uses all the energy at his disposal in order to succeed. Somewhat rebellious and inflexible, Paul fights any opposition or resistance he meets.
