Although Miko Lee appears gentle and sympathetic toward others (as explained in the previous chapter), she is also a "warrior". Lee sometimes feels torn between these two facets of her character: the sensitive, tenderhearted, home-loving side, and the assertive, competitive, risk-taking side. People who first meet Miko Lee often think that she is a "softy", but later find out that she is strong willed and pursues her goals aggressively.

She is a person who thrives on challenge, and she often feels that she must battle her way through life, relying on no one and nothing but her own strength, intelligence and courage. Miko Lee believes in being totally honest, true to herself and her own vision and convictions, even if it means standing alone. Honesty, integrity, personal honor and authenticity are Lee's gods, and she has no sympathy for weakness of character in others.

Miko Lee craves the freedom to do things in her own way, and she works very well independently. Cooperating with others or carrying out another's will is not her style. Miko likes to be the chief - or to go it alone.

Miko Lee loves action and if others are settling down into a nice, comfortable little rut, then she is always ready to stir things up, do something new, make changes and introduce some fresh blood. Routine and sameness are tantamount to death for her. She is not afraid of trying something that has never been done before, and even though she may sometimes be perceived as a fool, Miko Lee also discovers, invents and initiates things that others will later emulate. Taking risks and following her own star are the breath of life for Lee, and she wilts (or gets very frustrated and angry) if she cannot do this.

Miko Lee believes in the power of positive thinking and positive action, and she perceives herself as a strong, even invincible, person. Miko Lee hates being ill or in a position of dependency. Miko Lee is philosophically inclined and concerned with seeking answers to the big questions of life or getting an overall picture of any situation. Abstract concepts and/or plans for the future occupy her mind much of the time.

Miko Lee feels that she has the support of her family or others in her environment for her creative efforts and personal goals, which enables her to act with confidence. She is able to satisfy both her need to be an individual and her need for caring relationships and a sense of belonging. She is in harmony with herself and is therefore an effective individual.

Realistic and practical, Miko Lee sets goals for herself that are modest enough for her to actually achieve. She is able to tackle long, difficult projects and see them through, for Lee possesses self-discipline, concentration and perseverance. Miko Lee also has a strong sense of responsibility and is very conscientious about fulfilling her obligations. Lee often does things because she feels it is expected of her.

Although she takes herself and her responsibilities seriously, there is also a part of Miko Lee that rebels against rules and restrictions and the need to contend with outside authority. Lee can feel torn between conforming to the rules or fulfilling her obligations, and breaking free of them. Her wilder side will now be described.

At times Miko Lee may feel an uncontrollable urge to radically alter her direction in life or to act in ways that seem eccentric or at least highly atypical. When her life becomes too predictable, Miko may do something to upset the status quo, sometimes without realizing why or how she is doing it. These impulses may seem at odds with her conscious intent and desires for herself, and can be unsettling. However, there is a streak of unconventionality and creative genius in Miko Lee that needs to be expressed now and then.

She is infused with a sense of personal destiny or mission and can be extremely driven, obsessed and fanatical. Learning about power and how to use it effectively is definitely on her agenda. Miko Lee confronts abusive power, tyranny and dominating people who will teach her about power and eventually force Lee to claim her own.
