Marlon Brando motivation
Behind Brando's upbeat, friendly, open manner (described in the previous chapter), there is a very competitive, me-first, play-to-win sort of person.
He is a person who thrives on challenge, and he often feels that he must battle his way through life, relying on no one and nothing but his own strength, intelligence and courage. Marlon Brando believes in being totally honest, true to himself and his own vision and convictions, even if it means standing alone. Honesty, integrity, personal honor and authenticity are Brando's gods, and he has no sympathy for weakness of character in others.
Marlon Brando craves the freedom to do things in his own way, and he works very well independently. Cooperating with others or carrying out another's will is not his style. Marlon likes to be the chief - or to go it alone.
Marlon Brando loves action and if others are settling down into a nice, comfortable little rut, then he is always ready to stir things up, do something new, make changes and introduce some fresh blood. Routine and sameness are tantamount to death for him. He is not afraid of trying something that has never been done before, and even though he may sometimes be perceived as a fool, Marlon Brando also discovers, invents and initiates things that others will later emulate. Taking risks and following his own star are the breath of life for Brando, and he wilts (or gets very frustrated and angry) if he cannot do this.
He is spontaneous, impulsive, direct, enthusiastic and assertive. Marlon Brando believes in the power of positive thinking and positive action, and he perceives himself as a strong, even invincible, person. Marlon Brando hates being ill or in a position of dependency. Accepting his own human limitations and emotional needs is often difficult for him.
He is basically aggressive in his attitudes and less adept at relating to others, picking up on subtle messages and nuances, listening, nurturing and harmonizing. He is often so fired up about his own projects or goals that he inadvertently runs over or ignores other people's feelings and interests. Being receptive and appreciative of others' contributions, ideas and feelings would be highly instrumental in improving Brando's relationships. His impatience to get on with things causes Marlon Brando to be rather insensitive, thereby alienating others unnecessarily. He also frequently tries to accomplish his goals through anger or temper tantrums. Marlon Brando would gain much by learning to slow down, relax and sometimes just let things be, however his energetic, restless nature rarely allows Marlon Brando to do so.
He is a private person and inclined to withdraw in very public and impersonal social settings. Marlon Brando prefers to work at home or in a very personal small business.
Brando invests a lot of his creative energy into his home, family relationships, and his inner life.
The above description of Marlon Brando is so deeply ingrained that he has little objectivity and often little appreciation for other, different ways of approaching life. Marlon Brando tends to be one-sided. There is little ambiguity in his makeup and he generally knows what he wants and what will make him happy.
He is direct, energetic, sometimes aggressive and combative. Marlon Brando often feels that he needs to fight to get what he wants, and he tends to have a "me-first" attitude that angers or irritates others. He is hasty, restless, impatient and sometimes reckless.
Along with his energy and drive Marlon Brando has high ideals and an active fantasy life. There is a dreamer and an idealist in Brando, as well as a doer and a fighter. Marlon wants to win but not at others' expense, and this maybe something of a dilemma for him.
He is imaginative and sensitive to anything colorful, beautiful or magical. He is attracted to artistic and creative pursuits, music and mysticism. His spiritual values color Marlon's whole perspective and approach to life. He is idealistic and perhaps impractical.
He is intensely willful, zealous, and fanatical though Marlon often hides the intensity of his feelings and his personal motives and desires. Brando is infatuated with power and has an almost compulsive desire for personal recognition and the desire to be "somebody". Marlon Brando tends to worship heroes who have powerful personal magnetism and charisma and often seeks to emulate them. Marlon Brando both fears, and is intensely fascinated with, death and the hidden, secret, dark side of life.
His vitality is very strong and he is likely to be a workaholic. If Marlon Brando is not careful, he may work so hard that he becomes exhausted, leaving himself open to physical breakdown. Marlon Brando also has a strong drive to win and to dominate others.
