Margaret Mead's fundamental needs, values, and orientation towards life are symbolized by the four astrological elements. Each person has their own unique balance of these four basic energies: fire (warmth, inspiration, enthusiasm), earth (practicality, realism, material interests), air (social and intellectual qualities), and water (emotional needs and feelings).

Margaret Mead is ambitious, enthusiastic, clever and witty, and she is likely to succeed at whatever career she chooses, be it in academia or the business world. Mead enjoys a wide circle of friends and she is well-loved by others, but it is likely that she will have serious problems within the circle of her close, family relationships, as described below.

Margaret has trouble dealing with emotions - both her own and those of others. Margaret Mead often ignores or discounts feelings and the emotional reality of a situation, thus seeming insensitive or uncaring to others. Mead needs to develop the capacity to experience deep emotional ties, empathy, compassion, and sensitivity to the feelings of others; however, this ability will only manifest later in life rather than in her youth.

Though Margaret Mead may appear emotionally self-sufficient or above it all, her tendency to repress her feelings could have physical ramifications; as such, it would serve Mead well to learn to acknowledge and express all of her emotions.

Mead may also find that she craves fluids or the desire to live near bodies of water as a means to gain balance.
