One of Mongkut's greatest assets is his ability to see both sides of an issue, and to negotiate and bring about compromise and reconciliation. Tactful, reasonable, and endowed with considerable social finesse, King Mongkut works well with people in business as well as in personal relationships. He is objective and somewhat detached from emotional bias, and makes an excellent consultant, mediator or public relations person. Once Rama IV's interest has been piqued, he can become obsessed with getting to the bottom of the matter. At times King Mongkut makes more of something than is actually the case, like assigning dark, convoluted motives to a person where none exist.

His aspirations seem to be geared toward intellectual and spiritual lines and Rama IV tends to base his friendships and other relationships on mutual inner understanding. King Mongkut shares his thoughts and plans mostly with people who have the same interests that he has.
