King Mongkut challenges and difficulties
King Mongkut takes his personal relationships so seriously that they may seem more like work, constant effort, and compromise, rather than a free and enjoyable sharing. He may feel that relationships in general require more of him than they are worth, and Mongkut enters into any close relationship cautiously and conscientiously. King Mongkut also fears entrapment in close relationships.
King Mongkut has a mature, disciplined, serious attitude toward life which colors everything he does. Caution and realism are his virtues though Mongkut limits himself at times by being too careful, shy, or fearful, and not believing in himself enough or being assertive when necessary. Others find King Mongkut difficult to get to know intimately, as Rama IV tends to distance himself from them or to put forth a rather stern, "adult" face to the world.
King Mongkut tends to be his own worst enemy, demanding inhuman perfection of himself and harshly criticizing or persecuting himself when he does not measure up. Perhaps circumstances or relationships in his life have been extremely difficult and demanding, reinforcing Mongkut's belief that he must struggle alone.
He is capable of tremendous effort and of overcoming great odds and handicaps. Through these efforts King Mongkut develops his power and inner strength. However, King Mongkut should not make life harder than it is. He must give himself permission to let up sometimes, and to realize that he is only human.
He is inclined to preserve and build up his heritage. Others are attracted to him, but at the same time King Mongkut gives the impression of being unapproachable. Rama IV tends to hold back his feelings and is somewhat inhibited with others, especially in his love relationships.
Now we will discuss patterns of behavior which King Mongkut instinctively and habitually reverts to when under stress - a mostly subconscious process that he is apt to over indulge in because it is so familiar and hence easy for him. The direction King Mongkut needs to follow in order to develop balance, greater awareness, and wholeness is also described.
King Mongkut's path lies in cultivating idealism and humanitarian feelings, being concerned with how Rama IV's actions impact the world at large, perhaps becoming more aware of the social implications of Rama IV's life style and personal choices or becoming active politically. Participating in organizations that support Rama IV's ideals is one way to do this.
When under stress he is likely to become overly focused on himself and his own little world.
Instead of "how will this benefit or hurt me?" Rama IV's focus needs to shift to "how will this affect us all?".
Ideally, King Mongkut needs to strike a balance between doing for himself and doing for others, by discovering how Rama IV's unique gifts can benefit others.
The arena he is most likely to wrestle with these issues is in playful self-expression, games or sports, and creativity. King Mongkut should try to develop any artistic, expressive, creative potentials he feels he possesses, utilizing the qualities described above.
The specific habits which are likely to hold King Mongkut back, or which he is prone to overdo, especially during stressful periods, include:
The need to be first all of the time and demonstrate an aggressive or bossy attitude, impatience or irritability; an over-eagerness to use force or violence to gain advantage and the tendency to resort to fighting or using confrontation too quickly.
He is very social and his relationships with others are very warm and expansive. It is essential for Mongkut's emotional welfare to be surrounded by people and he is an active member of groups or associations he belongs to.
