John Major motivation
Behind Major's rather pragmatic, hardheaded exterior (mentioned in the previous chapter), he is an adventurer and a risk-taker at heart. His cool, conservative manner masks a much more fiery core.
He is a person who thrives on challenge, and he often feels that he must battle his way through life, relying on no one and nothing but his own strength, intelligence and courage. John Major believes in being totally honest, true to himself and his own vision and convictions, even if it means standing alone. Honesty, integrity, personal honor and authenticity are Major's gods, and he has no sympathy for weakness of character in others.
John Major craves the freedom to do things in his own way, and he works very well independently. Cooperating with others or carrying out another's will is not his style. John likes to be the chief - or to go it alone.
John Major loves action and if others are settling down into a nice, comfortable little rut, then he is always ready to stir things up, do something new, make changes and introduce some fresh blood. Routine and sameness are tantamount to death for him. He is not afraid of trying something that has never been done before, and even though he may sometimes be perceived as a fool, John Major also discovers, invents and initiates things that others will later emulate. Taking risks and following his own star are the breath of life for Major, and he wilts (or gets very frustrated and angry) if he cannot do this.
He is spontaneous, impulsive, direct, enthusiastic and assertive. John Major believes in the power of positive thinking and positive action, and he perceives himself as a strong, even invincible, person. John Major hates being ill or in a position of dependency. Accepting his own human limitations and emotional needs is often difficult for him.
He is basically aggressive in his attitudes and less adept at relating to others, picking up on subtle messages and nuances, listening, nurturing and harmonizing. He is often so fired up about his own projects or goals that he inadvertently runs over or ignores other people's feelings and interests. Being receptive and appreciative of others' contributions, ideas and feelings would be highly instrumental in improving Major's relationships. His impatience to get on with things causes John Major to be rather insensitive, thereby alienating others unnecessarily. He also frequently tries to accomplish his goals through anger or temper tantrums. John Major would gain much by learning to slow down, relax and sometimes just let things be, however his energetic, restless nature rarely allows John Major to do so.
Ownership gives John Major a sense of security, and he has a strong attachment to his possessions. John also has a natural instinct for or understanding of economics, finance, trade, and appraising the value of merchandise.
John Major tends to see things from his perspective only and to be rather subjective. He also enjoys talking and expressing his views but does not always listen as well. John Major has a clear mind, a love of learning and new experiences, and he needs constant mental stimulation and activity.
John Major often feels that he is at cross purposes with himself, for his conscious intentions and desires conflict with his subconscious emotional needs and drives. He is torn in two different directions. John has difficulty satisfying both his need to be an individual and his need for caring relationships and a sense of belonging. Moreover, John sends out mixed messages so people do not always know how to respond to him or what John really wants, thereby creating confusion or conflict in close relationships.
John Major has a healthy amount of self-control and self-discipline. Major also radiates a rather responsible, trustworthy, solid feeling about himself which will win him the confidence of others, especially his superiors.
John Major deeply believes in his own power and his ability to survive any change and emerge victorious from any difficulty. John has tremendous inner resources and strength. Intense, strong willed, and zealous, he pursues his desires and goals with complete dedication and singleness of purpose, and he may be somewhat compulsive and even fanatical at times. John likes to live intensely and has no respect for people who are weak or avoid confronting life and their own destiny.
His physical energy is strong and John Major is able to make an extra effort and work quite hard at any task he wants to do. Major can act quickly and he gets a great deal accomplished in a hurry. But John Major also has a tendency to be reckless and accident-prone.
