John C. Hawkes motivation
Although John Hawkes comes across as a very private, somewhat wary and enigmatic individual (as described on the previous page), there is another, quite different side to him: a person who really wants to be noticed, known, loved and admired.
Proud and intensely individual, John Hawkes really wants to stand out, to be the very best he can be, and to be recognized and appreciated for his unique contributions. Doing something well and being respected for it is extremely important to him, and he cannot tolerate being relegated to the background, taking orders from others, or being "just one of the team". John Hawkes must put his personal stamp on whatever he does, and direct his own course in life. John Hawkes needs to have a place where he can shine, express himself creatively, and be the one in charge.
John has big dreams and the determination, spirit, vitality and enthusiasm to realize them. John Hawkes also has a noble, romantic heart, and a love of the dramatic, colorful, and extravagant.
For John Hawkes, it is true that "the entire world's a stage" and he secretly (or perhaps not so secretly) desires to be the star or hero of the play. John wants to be great and to receive the love and applause of an adoring audience, even if the "audience" is just one other special person. He needs someone to believe in him and his dreams. Though Hawkes appears radiantly self-confident and independent, he is actually very dependent on the affirmation, love and recognition of others. He cannot bear going unnoticed or unappreciated.
John Hawkes also loves wholeheartedly and generously and really knows how to make the person he loves feel special. John Hawkes loves the magic of "being in love" and knows how to keep the romance alive in his relationships. He is also immensely loyal and will defend his loved ones and stand by them to the end - as long as they never offend his pride or betray his trust. However, John Hawkes likes to be the strong one in his relationships and he really does not share the leading role very easily. Ideally, John needs to find a person who is as strong-willed as he is, but who will not try to dominate or compete with him.
Hawkes' strengths are his zest and love for life, his creative power and his warm and generous heart. His primary fault is his tendency to be very egocentric, and so concerned with the impression he is making and with his own creative self-expression that he forgets there is another, larger world that does not revolve around him.
Hawkes is very attracted to world travel, foreign cultures and studies that expand his intellectual horizons and broaden his understanding of the world.
John Hawkes is philosophically inclined and concerned with seeking answers to the big questions of life or getting an overall picture of any situation. Abstract concepts and/or plans for the future occupy his mind much of the time.
At times John Hawkes may feel an uncontrollable urge to radically alter his direction in life or to act in ways that seem eccentric or at least highly atypical. When his life becomes too predictable, John may do something to upset the status quo, sometimes without realizing why or how he is doing it. These impulses may seem at odds with his conscious intent and desires for himself, and can be unsettling. However, there is a streak of unconventionality and creative genius in John Hawkes that needs to be expressed now and then.
Sensitive and imaginative, he is attracted to artistic and creative pursuits and to mysticism. John Hawkes is impressionable and receptive, and often has experiences that are unusual and unexplainable by the rational mind. John has an abundance of dreams, visions and longings, but does not always have the concentrated will and stamina to make them materialize. Gentle, idealistic and peace loving, John often seeks to avoid the harsh realities of life. John has an ethereal quality about him.
It could be hard for John Hawkes to face up to his mistakes because of his insecurity and self-doubt. His early years may have been undermined by poor relationships with one or both of his parents who may have been ill, weak or alcoholic.
