Although John Deacon appears quite pleasant, agreeable and prepared to compromise for the sake of harmony (as described on the previous page), he also has a strong need to shine and express his own opinions. John has the potential to be a great leader, manager, coach or teacher.

Proud and intensely individual, John Deacon really wants to stand out, to be the very best he can be, and to be recognized and appreciated for his unique contributions. Doing something well and being respected for it is extremely important to him, and he cannot tolerate being relegated to the background, taking orders from others, or being "just one of the team". John Deacon must put his personal stamp on whatever he does, and direct his own course in life. John Deacon needs to have a place where he can shine, express himself creatively, and be the one in charge.

John has big dreams and the determination, spirit, vitality and enthusiasm to realize them. John Deacon also has a noble, romantic heart, and a love of the dramatic, colorful, and extravagant.

For John Deacon, it is true that "the entire world's a stage" and he secretly (or perhaps not so secretly) desires to be the star or hero of the play. John wants to be great and to receive the love and applause of an adoring audience, even if the "audience" is just one other special person. He needs someone to believe in him and his dreams. Though Deacon appears radiantly self-confident and independent, he is actually very dependent on the affirmation, love and recognition of others. He cannot bear going unnoticed or unappreciated.

John Deacon also loves wholeheartedly and generously and really knows how to make the person he loves feel special. His primary fault is his tendency to be very egocentric, and so concerned with the impression he is making and with his own creative self-expression that he forgets there is another, larger world that does not revolve around him.

His career, reputation and public image are very important to Deacon. John Deacon has a strong desire to be influential or make his mark on the world. He is not satisfied with the personal sphere alone; his ambitions include making a major contribution and receiving broad recognition for his unique effort and gifts. John Deacon may undervalue the personal or inner facet of life.

There is an ongoing, subtle conflict within John Deacon between his conscious attitudes and aspirations and his deeper emotional and subconscious beliefs, needs and feelings. This creates considerable inner stress and sometimes paralyzing indecision, mostly due to the fact that John may be trying to follow a path that is at odds with his subconscious desires. Chronic tightness or tension in his body may well be a signal that John Deacon is denying or suppressing the messages from his subconscious or emotional self.

Ideally, John Deacon will learn to accept and express these two different sides of himself. Should he fail to do so, Deacon is likely to be drawn into many relationships with people who reflect his denied or repressed qualities and seem to make his life difficult. He is driven by a deep inner sense of destiny and mission and an almost compulsive desire for personal recognition. John is infatuated with power, incredibly willful and stubbornly fixated on achieving greatness or being someone Special. John Deacon tends to worship heroes who have powerful personal magnetism and charisma, and he often seeks to emulate them. John has potential for tremendous good or tremendous evil.

John Deacon has a harmonious balance between his body, soul and spirit. He enjoys intellectual challenges from others, but tends to form his own mental attitudes and philosophies of life. He may be interested in studying human nature and matters of health.
