In addition to having an independent spirit, as described in the previous chapter, John DeLorean is also objective, pragmatic and quite ambitious. He is likely to work his way to the top of the ladder in some corporation, academic community or the like through his astute strategies combined with his willingness to take risks. John DeLorean aims to be the authority, the one in charge. At times his impulsiveness may be at odds with his conservative, responsible side (which is discussed below). DeLorean could experience ongoing internal tension between pleasing himself and acting spontaneously versus doing what he needs to do to get ahead and realize his long-range ambitions.
Serious, disciplined and quietly ambitious, he is driven to prove himself and to achieve material accomplishments and success. His work, his position in the world, and his contributions to society are very important to DeLorean. John DeLorean will persevere through enormous hardship and frustration in order to reach a goal he has set for himself, and he often sacrifices much in the area of personal relationships and home life in order to do so.

John DeLorean seems to always be in control, capable, efficient and strong. He is often the person in the family or group who is given more responsibility (and more work) than the others. He is highly conscientious and even as a child he possessed great maturity, soberness, and worldly wisdom.
He is basically a pragmatic realist, and though he may have all sorts of dreams, ideals and colorful theories, he feels that the ultimate test of a concept is its practical usefulness. John has an innate shrewdness and business sense, and there is a bit of the cynic in him as well.
He is clear-headed, detached and objective, and is not swayed by emotional dramatics. He is often authoritarian - strictly fair, but without mercy. John DeLorean has a great respect for tradition and even if he does not agree with certain laws, he will abide by them or strive to change them, but never flagrantly disregard them. Cautious and conservative, John DeLorean plays by the rules.
He is subtle, understated, quiet, deep, not easy to get to know intimately, and never superficial. He is a modest person and sometimes overly self-critical. Giving himself (and others) permission to feel, play, be spontaneous and silly, and sometimes weak and vulnerable is not easy for DeLorean.
DeLorean's strong points are his depth and thoroughness, patience, tenacity and faithfulness. His faults are a tendency to be rigid and inflexible, and too serious.
His career, reputation and public image are very important to DeLorean. John DeLorean has a strong desire to be influential or make his mark on the world. He is not satisfied with the personal sphere alone; his ambitions include making a major contribution and receiving broad recognition for his unique effort and gifts. John DeLorean may undervalue the personal or inner facet of life.
He is direct, energetic, sometimes aggressive and combative. John DeLorean often feels that he needs to fight to get what he wants, and he tends to have a "me-first" attitude that angers or irritates others. He is hasty, restless, impatient and sometimes reckless.
While John DeLorean does have a strong drive, he frequently holds himself back. One of his challenges lies in learning to endure frustration and to patiently overcome the obstacles in his life (or his own internal caution and resistance!).
John DeLorean has a healthy amount of self-control and self-discipline. DeLorean also radiates a rather responsible, trustworthy, solid feeling about himself which will win him the confidence of others, especially his superiors.
Although he takes himself and his responsibilities seriously, there is also a part of John DeLorean that rebels against rules and restrictions and the need to contend with outside authority. DeLorean can feel torn between conforming to the rules or fulfilling his obligations, and breaking free of them. His wilder side will now be described.
He is an original! John DeLorean radiates a sort of electrical excitement about the things he is interested in, and conveys this to others, but he also gets bored rather quickly. John does not mind being a bit unusual or breaking a few rules either.
He is infused with a sense of personal destiny or mission and can be extremely driven, obsessed and fanatical. Learning about power and how to use it effectively is definitely on his agenda. John DeLorean confronts abusive power, tyranny and dominating people who will teach him about power and eventually force DeLorean to claim his own.
Emotionally, it could be difficult for John DeLorean to discern illusion from reality. He is impressionable and sympathetic toward others. However, DeLorean tends to idealize others and could adopt a fantasy view of a wonderful marriage, causing disappointment later on.
DeLorean tends to be in a constant state of tension and seems to look for avenues to test his strength. John DeLorean uses all the energy at his disposal in order to succeed. Somewhat rebellious and inflexible, John fights any opposition or resistance he meets.
