Behind Robinson's proud and rather self-centered demeanor (described in the previous chapter), he is a thoughtful person concerned with social issues. He is very sensitive to the ways in which economic, social and cultural issues affect individuals. In his own life, Jackie Robinson struggles to find ways to advance himself while also contributing something valuable to his community. Robinson must not be content with simply blaming society for his own problems or those of others, but rather become active in finding creative ways to solve these problems.
