Jack has two conflicting interests that he tries to resolve. As described in the previous chapter, he loves to nurture and support others, and family relationships are very important to Lemmon. However, there is another side to Jack Lemmon: at heart he is a very independent person and he needs to participate in community endeavors and be involved with the world at large. Having a meaningful career and being involved in a larger circle of friends and associates is important to him as well. There are many ways to satisfy both of these sides. He may become an advocate for family needs or women's and children's issues in the workplace and in society as a whole. Or he may simply lend a personal, supportive, human touch to the impersonal atmosphere of business or academia. One negative possibility, however, is that he is may become very dogmatic about his own personal concerns and biases, not realizing how many of his social, political and even scientific views are rooted in personal experience rather than objective criteria.
He is a freedom-loving, strong-willed and independent-minded individual, and he insists upon living his own life as he sees fit, even if it means ignoring convention and tradition. In personal relationships, Jack Lemmon cannot be owned or possessed, and while he is willing to share himself with another, he does not always adjust easily to the emotional give and take of close relationships. Though intellectually open, Lemmon can be enormously stubborn, opinionated and inflexible on a one-to-one level. Jack has strong convictions and feelings about fairness and equality, and he tries to abide by them; however, his ideals about how people "should" treat one another do not always take into account human weaknesses, differences and needs. Jack Lemmon probably dislikes sentimentality and traditional gender roles and "games".
He is fair, intelligent, objective and rational and he often let his head rule rather than his heart. Jack Lemmon seems rather self-sufficient and emotionally detached because he is capable of putting aside his personal feelings and viewing things dispassionately. But once Jack makes up his mind on an issue, it is difficult to dissuade him, and he can be rather dogmatic.
Jack Lemmon thinks in broad terms and is concerned with the world beyond his own personal sphere - his town, nation, or even planet. He is likely to become involved in, or show a keen interest in, community endeavors, social organizations and groups of all kinds. He enjoys being part of a group endeavor, and he often assumes the role of organizing, managing or supervising group activities.

Jack Lemmon stays current and up to date, and responds to contemporary cultural trends, both in terms of personal style and ideas. When young, Jack Lemmon was very influenced by peer pressure and by all the "latest crazes". Jack has an experimental mind and is attracted to novelty.
His strong points include his concern for human welfare and social betterment, his sense of fairness and democratic spirit, and his vision. His faults are his stubbornness and inflexibility, and a tendency to be very obtuse and insensitive when it comes to personal feelings and human needs.
Jack Lemmon craves intense experiences and is attracted to aspects of life that are strange, unfathomable, or taboo. He may hide his interests or inclinations, except from those who know Jack very intimately. Jack Lemmon is extremely sensitive, compassionate and giving, often to his own detriment. His ideals and spiritual values motivate Jack Lemmon, and he cannot live for personal gain or materialistic concerns alone. There must be an element of beauty, magic, imagination, inspiration or creativity in what he does. Otherwise Jack Lemmon becomes listless and aimless. The arts, theater, music and/or charitable work are ideally suited to Jack.
Emotionally, it could be difficult for Jack Lemmon to discern illusion from reality. He is impressionable and sympathetic toward others. However, Lemmon tends to idealize others and could adopt a fantasy view of a wonderful marriage, causing disappointment later on.
