Although Heath Ledger enjoys conversing and interacting with people (as mentioned in the previous chapter), he also has a self-reliant, independent spirit. Ledger can go it alone if need be, because Heath Ledger likes to be a free agent. He likes to exchange ideas, but as stated below, he does not always listen.

He is a person who thrives on challenge, and he often feels that he must battle your way through life, depending upon no one and nothing but his own strength, intelligence, and courage. Heath Ledger believes in being totally honest, true to oneself and one's own vision and convictions, even if that means standing alone. Honesty, integrity, personal honor, and authenticity are Ledger's gods, and he has no sympathy for weakness of character in others.

Heath Ledger craves the freedom to do things in his own way, and he works very well independently. Cooperating with others or carrying out another's will is not his style. Heath likes to be the chief - or to go it alone.

Heath Ledger loves action and if others are settling down into a nice, comfortable little rut, then he is always ready to stir things up, do something new, make changes, and bring in some fresh blood. Routine and sameness are like death to him. He is not afraid of trying something that's never been done before, and even though he may be seen as a fool sometimes, Heath Ledger also discovers, invents, and initiates things that others will later emulate. Taking risks and following his own star are the breath of life for Ledger, and he wilts (or get very frustrated and angry) if he cannot do this.

He is spontaneous, impulsive, direct, enthusiastic, and assertive. Heath Ledger believes in the power of positive thinking and positive action, and he thinks of his as a strong person - even invincible. Heath Ledger hates being ill or in any way in a position of dependency. Accepting his own human limitations and emotional needs is often difficult for him.

He is basically aggressive in his attitudes and has less facility in the receptive arts of relating to others, picking up subtle messages and nuances, listening, nurturing, and harmonizing. Often he is so fired up about his own projects or goals that he inadvertently runs over or ignores other people's feelings and interests. Being receptive and appreciative of others' contributions, ideas, and feelings would go a long way in improving Ledger's relationships. His impatience to get on with things causes Heath Ledger to be rather insensitive, and to therefore alienate others unnecessarily. He also frequently tries to accomplish his ends by using anger or some version of a temper tantrum. Heath Ledger would gain much by learning to slow down, relax, and just let things be sometimes, but his energetic, restless nature rarely allows Heath Ledger to do this.

His career, reputation, and public image are very important to Ledger. Heath Ledger has a strong desire to be influential or make his mark on the world. The merely personal sphere does not satisfy him; his ambitions include making a major contribution and receiving broad recognition for his unique effort and gifts. Heath Ledger may undervalue the personal or inner side of life.

Heath Ledger often feels that he is at cross purposes with himself, for his conscious intentions and desires conflict with his subconscious emotional needs and drives. He is pulled in two different directions. Heath has difficulty satisfying both his need to be an individual and his need for caring relationships and a sense of belonging. Also, Heath sends out mixed messages so people do not always know how to respond to him or know what Heath really wants, thus creating confusion or conflict in close relationships.

He is infused with a sense of personal destiny or mission, and can be extremely driven, obsessed, and fanatical. Learning about power and how to use it for good is definitely part of his path. Heath Ledger confronts abusive power, tyranny, and dominating people who will teach him about power, and eventually force Ledger to claim his own.

Ledger tends to be in a constant state of tension and seems to look for avenues to test his strength. Heath Ledger uses all the energy at his disposal in order to succeed. Somewhat rebellious and inflexible, Heath fights any opposition or resistance he meets.
