Although he has lofty ideals and is high-minded in many ways (as mentioned in the previous chapter), there is a side of Harvey Milk that is sly, funny, and really cannot take anything too seriously. His sense of humor saves Milk from becoming overly earnest about himself or the things he believes in.

Harvey Milk is, in many ways, an eternal child. His mind is bright, alert, curious, flexible, playful and always eager for new experiences - and his attention span is often quite brief.
