Although Ernst Jünger appears gentle and sympathetic toward others (as explained in the previous chapter), he is also a "warrior". Jünger sometimes feels torn between these two facets of his character: the sensitive, tenderhearted, home-loving side, and the assertive, competitive, risk-taking side. People who first meet Ernst Jünger often think that he is a "softy", but later find out that he is strong willed and pursues his goals aggressively.

He is a person who thrives on challenge, and he often feels that he must battle his way through life, relying on no one and nothing but his own strength, intelligence and courage. Ernst Jünger believes in being totally honest, true to himself and his own vision and convictions, even if it means standing alone. Honesty, integrity, personal honor and authenticity are Jünger's gods, and he has no sympathy for weakness of character in others.

Ernst Jünger craves the freedom to do things in his own way, and he works very well independently. Cooperating with others or carrying out another's will is not his style. Ernst likes to be the chief - or to go it alone.

Routine and sameness are tantamount to death for him. His impatience to get on with things causes Ernst Jünger to be rather insensitive, thereby alienating others unnecessarily. He also frequently tries to accomplish his goals through anger or temper tantrums. Ernst Jünger would gain much by learning to slow down, relax and sometimes just let things be, however his energetic, restless nature rarely allows Ernst Jünger to do so.

His career, reputation and public image are very important to Jünger. Ernst Jünger has a strong desire to be influential or make his mark on the world. He is not satisfied with the personal sphere alone; his ambitions include making a major contribution and receiving broad recognition for his unique effort and gifts. Ernst Jünger may undervalue the personal or inner facet of life.

Ernst has to overcome considerable hardship in order to fulfill his personal destiny. However, he has the strength and stamina necessary to do so. Support and helpful guidance from his father or other significant men in his life may well be lacking. In fact, their disapproval of Ernst and their harsh criticism are apt to be two of his greatest handicaps, and at times he may feel quite discouraged and alone. But true self-reliance and a solid sense of his own powers may well be the silver lining to that cloud in his life. Ernst Jünger needs to learn to follow his own creative impulses and heart's desires, regardless of what his critics or the authorities may say.

Ernst Jünger undergoes deep, transformative changes in his life with relative ease and a minimum of conscious resistance. Because he does not avoid the depths, Jünger has access to a lot of personal power and strength. Without realizing it or seeking it, Ernst is apt to have quite a potent effect on the people he comes into contact with, even superficially. Others sense that Ernst Jünger is a force to be reckoned with.

Jünger always seems to find the right words to verbalize his feelings, especially in regard to love and friendship. Ernst Jünger also has a keen sense of beauty and he probably appreciates art, music or poetry.
