Eric Schweig motivation
Though Eric Schweig seems rather cautious and conservative (as discussed in the previous chapter), he has a much more playful, humorous side as well. Moreover, the combination of his attention to detail and cautious, circumspect approach to life, coupled with his youthful curiosity and quick mind makes Eric mentally sharp, articulate and clever.
Eric Schweig is, in many ways, an eternal child. His mind is bright, alert, curious, flexible, playful and always eager for new experiences - and his attention span is often quite brief. Schweig grasps ideas quickly and once his initial curiosity has been satisfied, he is ready to move on. Eric Schweig craves frequent change and variety, as well as new situations and people.
It may be hard for Eric Schweig to decide just where his talents and true vocation lie, for he has a multitude of interests and is loathe limiting himself by concentrating on just one. He is easily distracted by all of the other fascinating possibilities. His curiosity and restlessness propel Eric toward many different experiences in life, and he is willing to taste or try anything once. Doing the same thing over and over again, even if it is something he does well, is tantamount to drudgery for Schweig.
Eric Schweig lives in his head a great deal - reading, observing, thinking, spinning ideas around - and he needs mental stimulation every bit as much as he needs food and drink. In fact, if Eric had to choose between a good book or movie and a good lunch, he would very likely choose the former. Eric Schweig has a creative mind and he often lives by his wits.
He is also a very social creature, with a strong need to communicate and interact with people. He enjoys using and playing with words and has a real flair for getting his ideas across in a clever, interesting, articulate manner. Writing and/or speaking are areas he has talent for.
Eric Schweig also has a rather lighthearted and mischievous sense of humor, and often does not take anything too seriously. Though he craves emotional involvement, it is hard for Eric Schweig to achieve it, for he is frequently unwilling to commit himself to anything, to take responsibility or to limit his personal freedom and mobility.
His happiness lies in using his creativity and language skills to communicate something meaningful, teach, inspire, or bring people together. Eric has an unbiased mind and can usually offer a fresh, clear, uncluttered perspective. His faults are his lack of constancy and persistence, and his tendency to overlook or ignore deep emotional issues and other people's feelings.
His career, reputation and public image are very important to Schweig. Eric Schweig has a strong desire to be influential or make his mark on the world. He is not satisfied with the personal sphere alone; his ambitions include making a major contribution and receiving broad recognition for his unique effort and gifts. Eric Schweig may undervalue the personal or inner facet of life.
There is an ongoing, subtle conflict within Eric Schweig between his conscious attitudes and aspirations and his deeper emotional and subconscious beliefs, needs and feelings. This creates considerable inner stress and sometimes paralyzing indecision, mostly due to the fact that Eric may be trying to follow a path that is at odds with his subconscious desires. Chronic tightness or tension in his body may well be a signal that Eric Schweig is denying or suppressing the messages from his subconscious or emotional self.
Ideally, Eric Schweig will learn to accept and express these two different sides of himself. Should he fail to do so, Schweig is likely to be drawn into many relationships with people who reflect his denied or repressed qualities and seem to make his life difficult.
