Though Cannon appears somewhat unconventional or liberal in her approach to life (as mentioned in the previous chapter), she also has a very down to earth, practical, and rather conservative side. She is more attached to tradition and respectful of the ways of the past than she might let on. Balancing, or reconciling between the old and the new is a constant struggle for Cannon.
Serious, disciplined and quietly ambitious, she is driven to prove herself and to achieve material accomplishments and success. Her work, her position in the world, and her contributions to society are very important to Cannon. Dyan Cannon will persevere through enormous hardship and frustration in order to reach a goal she has set for herself, and she often sacrifices much in the area of personal relationships and home life in order to do so.
