Behind Sagan's rather calm and solid appearance (as described on the previous page), there is a much more passionate, tumultuous, emotionally complex person (described below). He may sometimes feel torn between maintaining the status quo and a craving for intensity in his relationships.
Quiet, deep, emotionally complex and intensely private, he is not a person who is easy to get to know and understand. Carl Sagan is extremely sensitive but disinclined to show it, and he allows only a special few into his inner world. Like a wary animal, he is cautious and mistrustful of those he does not know until "he sniffs them out". He is very, very instinctive and intuitive. Carl Sagan usually has a strong, immediate gut reaction to people, even though he may be unable to clearly articulate why he feels as he does. His feelings and perceptions go deeper than words.

Whatever he does, Carl does with passion and fervor, and he often goes to extremes. Sagan can be hot or cold, but never lukewarm about anything. Sagan can also be very narrow: either he is 100% involved in something or else it does not exist for him at all. Rarely is Carl Sagan emotionally detached and objective. He definitely has a fanatical streak. He is also immensely strong-willed and his tenacity in pursuing his objectives often borders on being obsessive. Fierce pride, courage, and emotional strength are his in abundance.
Carl Sagan loves mysteries and is deeply attracted to the hidden, dark, secret side of life. Carl never takes things at face value and is always probing beneath the surface of people and situations to discover what is really going on. Carl Sagan tends to be more of a cynic than an idealist.
His energies are directed to either perfecting his techniques, skills, and abilities in work, or in "perfecting", refining, and improving himself as a person. Critical analysis and attention to minute detail are intrinsic in either process. The urge to bring about a state of wholeness or optimal functioning is a strong motivation of Carl Sagan's, and he is quite a perfectionist!
Sagan can easily become overly identified or involved with the function he performs, with his work, or with his own health and "growth process".
Carl Sagan is loving and well-loved by others, and has a strong need for relationships that offer kindness, friendship, and affection. His artistic and creative powers are also well developed and Carl does everything in a harmonious, gracious, pleasing manner. Aesthetics are very important to Sagan, as well as his personal appearance and attractiveness.
However, while Carl Sagan prefers harmony and accord, he also has a confrontational side.
Sagan can be an inspiring leader of a team or group effort. His dynamism and energy evokes the same in others, and he sees healthy competition between people as a plus. Generally, Carl Sagan enjoys fine health as well.
While Carl Sagan deeply appreciates beauty and has a great desire for love, he is in no way frivolous or indiscriminate in his affections. Sagan can be very frugal and sparing with both money and emotions.

He is very open and receptive to the spiritual, intangible, and subtle realms, and can easily receive or give conscious guidance based on his inner attunement. Carl Sagan takes many things for granted, such as the existence of an afterlife or the effects of subtle influences like aromatherapy, spiritual healing, etc. These things seem obvious to Carl, whereas to many people they are a matter of conjecture or even illusory. Carl Sagan may not realize he has spiritual gifts because they come so naturally to him.
