Although Alec Baldwin appears gentle and soft, and he is sympathetic towards other people (as explained in the previous chapter), he is also a "warrior". Baldwin sometimes feels torn between these two aspects of his: the sensitive, tender-hearted, home-loving side, and the assertive, competitive, risk-taking side.
