Forward-looking and progressive, he is a person who supports change, innovation, and human advancement, and Zhang Yimou is often strongly committed to a humanitarian cause or social improvement. He is extremely aware of the interrelations between all people, and is always projecting personal issues unto a greater whole. Yimou Zhang sees the political or social ramifications of personal actions, and he wishes to contribute something of value to the world, or at least to his community or group.
