Walter H. Brattain general characteristics
Walter Brattain's fundamental needs, values, and orientation towards life are symbolized by the four astrological elements. Each person has their own unique balance of these four basic energies: fire (warmth, inspiration, enthusiasm), earth (practicality, realism, material interests), air (social and intellectual qualities), and water (emotional needs and feelings).
Brattain's "elemental make-up" is described below. Remember that most people are "unbalanced" or lopsided, and if Walter is lacking or deficient in a certain element (or elements), it simply means that he needs to consciously develop that particular aspect in order to appreciate and/or work harder in that dimension of life.
Sometimes we overestimate the element that we are least endowed with, sensing it as a lack within ourselves, but more often we neglect or ignore it. The qualities described below will be reiterated and explained in more detail in the following pages.
Brattain's gift lies in his ability to perceive, understand and communicate about feelings and matters of the heart and soul. He is thus well suited to any field that involves working with people as a counselor or teacher, and even if Walter is not trained to do so, others seek him out as an advisor, for Walter Brattain is able to clarify and sensitively discuss their personal concerns and problems. Relationships are of primary importance to Walter Brattain, and his ability to handle them is one of his richest and most fulfilling experiences. Walter, even more than most people, requires relationships with friends and intimates with whom he shares his thoughts and life experiences.
Walter Brattain also has an active and creative mind and is apt to spend much time reading, thinking or daydreaming, and/or writing (stories, music, lyrics, diaries, letters, etc.). Film or any media combining words with images and emotions also fascinates him.
At times his mind and intellect may seem to be at odds with his instinctive, emotional side, and it is Walter's task to bring them together. Walter Brattain may spend a lot of time mulling over his experiences and feelings, trying to understand and make sense of them.
He is quite sensitive (psychologically and physically) and may avoid taking a direct, active part in life.
He is likely to be overly humble or unsure of himself and to look to others for inspiration, motivation, reinforcement and approval. Tending to be somewhat passive, Walter Brattain must learn how to take initiative and motivate himself.
A lack of warmth (either physical, emotional or both) may be evident in Brattain and can manifest physically as a low energy level, paleness and lack of color in the skin, or a tendency to be easily chilled. Emotionally, it can be reflected in a marked coolness or aloofness with little spiritedness, joyfulness, or enthusiasm for living. Eating warming, spicy foods, living in a warm, sunny place, and using fire in his daily life (lighting candles, using a wood stove or fireplace for heat) can help balance Walter. Also, spending time with warm, cheerful, positive-minded people and developing a philosophy based on spiritual optimism can stir up Walter's own zest for life.
On the positive side, Walter Brattain is unlikely to be egocentric and has a capacity for ample patience and peacefulness.
One of his primary challenges lies in developing a sense of security and stability and adopting a steady rhythm in life. Cultivating self-discipline, patience and endurance and learning to accept realistic limitations will enable Walter Brattain to be more productive and to implement some of his ideas and creative impulses. Walter Brattain is not always interested in the practicalities and compromises required to make his dreams a reality.
At times, Walter Brattain feels out of place in the world, restless, discontent, unable to find his niche and dissatisfied with mundane reality. This may have the positive effect of sparking Brattain's exploration of the creative, imaginative or spiritual side of life. However, Walter tends to resist growing up and learning how to effectively deal with adult responsibility. He also tends to be either bound up with the past or projecting into the future, thereby ignoring the present. To become more grounded in the here and now, Walter Brattain may find it helpful to get massages on a regular basis, make a practice of gentle, rhythmic exercise like walking or yoga, and eat substantial, heavy foods.
