Umberto Nobile motivation
Umberto has two conflicting interests that he tries to resolve. As described in the previous chapter, he loves to nurture and support others, and family relationships are very important to Nobile. However, there is another side to Umberto Nobile: at heart he is a very independent person and he needs to participate in community endeavors and be involved with the world at large. Having a meaningful career and being involved in a larger circle of friends and associates is important to him as well. There are many ways to satisfy both of these sides. He may become an advocate for family needs or women's and children's issues in the workplace and in society as a whole. Or he may simply lend a personal, supportive, human touch to the impersonal atmosphere of business or academia. One negative possibility, however, is that he is may become very dogmatic about his own personal concerns and biases, not realizing how many of his social, political and even scientific views are rooted in personal experience rather than objective criteria.
He is a freedom-loving, strong-willed and independent-minded individual, and he insists upon living his own life as he sees fit, even if it means ignoring convention and tradition. In personal relationships, Umberto Nobile cannot be owned or possessed, and while he is willing to share himself with another, he does not always adjust easily to the emotional give and take of close relationships. Though intellectually open, Nobile can be enormously stubborn, opinionated and inflexible on a one-to-one level. Umberto has strong convictions and feelings about fairness and equality, and he tries to abide by them; however, his ideals about how people "should" treat one another do not always take into account human weaknesses, differences and needs. Umberto Nobile probably dislikes sentimentality and traditional gender roles and "games".
He is fair, intelligent, objective and rational and he often let his head rule rather than his heart. Umberto Nobile seems rather self-sufficient and emotionally detached because he is capable of putting aside his personal feelings and viewing things dispassionately. But once Umberto makes up his mind on an issue, it is difficult to dissuade him, and he can be rather dogmatic.
Umberto Nobile thinks in broad terms and is concerned with the world beyond his own personal sphere - his town, nation, or even planet. He is likely to become involved in, or show a keen interest in, community endeavors, social organizations and groups of all kinds. He enjoys being part of a group endeavor, and he often assumes the role of organizing, managing or supervising group activities.
Forward-looking and progressive, he harbors great hopes for the future. Umberto Nobile stays current and up to date, and responds to contemporary cultural trends, both in terms of personal style and ideas. When young, Umberto Nobile was very influenced by peer pressure and by all the "latest crazes". Umberto has an experimental mind and is attracted to novelty.
His strong points include his concern for human welfare and social betterment, his sense of fairness and democratic spirit, and his vision. His faults are his stubbornness and inflexibility, and a tendency to be very obtuse and insensitive when it comes to personal feelings and human needs.
Umberto Nobile invests a tremendous amount of his creative energy into his relationships with others, particularly his marriage or other close partnerships. Umberto feels that he needs others in order to be all that he can be, and he is disinclined to solitary activities and endeavors.
Working with people on a one-to-one basis to bring about mutual understanding, harmony, and satisfaction is an area in which Umberto Nobile can really excel. Counseling or negotiating are talents of his.
Nobile's subconscious needs and feelings blend well with his conscious intentions and desires, therefore Umberto Nobile is able to proceed in his life's pursuits relatively unhampered by internal resistance or inconsistency. Umberto's male-female relationships will reflect this state of internal harmony also.
He is assertive, energetic, active, courageous and vital. Umberto Nobile has a very strong physical drive that expresses itself as sexuality and passion, a desire to compete with others, and a tendency to fight. Umberto Nobile has a victorious spirit and the will to win.
Nobile occasionally gamble, splurge, or overextend himself in ways that may be quite at odds with his usual way of doing things. Exaggerating his accomplishments or spending too much in order to impress others and build up his own self-esteem can be a problem. However, Umberto Nobile also has faith and an optimistic side, which enable him to recover from the negative consequences of his excesses, and to learn from them.
The unusual and unorthodox appeal to Nobile, and he does not allow tradition, convention or other people's expectations to dictate how he is going to live his life. Umberto Nobile craves freedom, adventure, excitement and discovery, and is not afraid of change. Umberto Nobile possesses inventive and creative genius.
Umberto Nobile deeply believes in his own power and his ability to survive any change and emerge victorious from any difficulty. Umberto has tremendous inner resources and strength. Intense, strong willed, and zealous, he pursues his desires and goals with complete dedication and singleness of purpose, and he may be somewhat compulsive and even fanatical at times. Umberto likes to live intensely and has no respect for people who are weak or avoid confronting life and their own destiny.
Umberto Nobile has a great desire for freedom and independence and is subject to strong emotional tensions. He is very creative and forges ahead tirelessly. But Nobile tends to make the highest demands on his physical energy and is prone to over-stimulate his nerves.
