Many of the traits described in Chapter 2 are emphasized again below. His enthusiasm and outgoing, forward-looking nature is a gift, but Tom Waits should also be wary of the tendency to overlook details and be oblivious to others' personal feelings.
He is a gambler and an adventurer at heart, one who loves to take risks, to discover and explore new worlds, and to travel the untried path rather than the safe, reliable one. He is independent, freedom loving, and often very restless. He needs a lifestyle that provides opportunities for travel, movement, change, and meeting new people. A steady routine, which offers much in the way of security but little in the way of space and freedom, is odious to him.
To Tom Waits, life is a journey and an adventure that is endlessly interesting and rich with possibilities, and it may be difficult for him to decide where to focus his attention and efforts. He is quite generous, and heartily dislikes pettiness in others. Someone who shares his ideals, his sense of fun and his zest for life would be the right companion for Waits.
Tom Waits tends to get involved in the helping professions or in activities where his efforts are hidden, behind the scenes, unacknowledged or unknown to the public. Waits may find it exceedingly uncomfortable to assert himself or get up in front of an audience.
He is often plagued by feelings of personal inadequacy, inhibitions and self-doubt. Tom Waits has a cautious, realistic attitude toward life and is highly responsible and disciplined with regard to his obligations and duties. He is very open and receptive to the spiritual, intangible, and subtle realms, and can easily receive or give conscious guidance based on his inner attunement. Tom Waits takes many things for granted, such as the existence of an afterlife or the effects of subtle influences like aromatherapy, spiritual healing, etc. These things seem obvious to Tom, whereas to many people they are a matter of conjecture or even illusory. Tom Waits may not realize he has spiritual gifts because they come so naturally to him.
Tom Waits deeply believes in his own power and his ability to survive any change and emerge victorious from any difficulty. Tom has tremendous inner resources and strength. Intense, strong willed, and zealous, he pursues his desires and goals with complete dedication and singleness of purpose, and he may be somewhat compulsive and even fanatical at times. Tom likes to live intensely and has no respect for people who are weak or avoid confronting life and their own destiny.
Tom Waits tends to impose his will upon others in a rather ruthless way, but on the other hand he may also be imposed upon by others. Tom feels a constant need to fight for leadership and has a great desire to become a public figure.
