Behind Marconnet's upbeat, friendly, open manner (described in the previous chapter), there is a very competitive, me-first, play-to-win sort of person.

He is a person who thrives on challenge, and he often feels that he must battle his way through life, relying on no one and nothing but his own strength, intelligence and courage. Sylvain Marconnet believes in being totally honest, true to himself and his own vision and convictions, even if it means standing alone. Honesty, integrity, personal honor and authenticity are Marconnet's gods, and he has no sympathy for weakness of character in others.

Sylvain Marconnet craves the freedom to do things in his own way, and he works very well independently. Cooperating with others or carrying out another's will is not his style. Sylvain likes to be the chief - or to go it alone.

Sylvain Marconnet loves action and if others are settling down into a nice, comfortable little rut, then he is always ready to stir things up, do something new, make changes and introduce some fresh blood.
