Although Selena appears gentle and sympathetic toward others (as explained in the previous chapter), she is also a "warrior". Selena sometimes feels torn between these two facets of her character: the sensitive, tenderhearted, home-loving side, and the assertive, competitive, risk-taking side. People who first meet Selena often think that she is a "softy", but later find out that she is strong willed and pursues her goals aggressively.
She is a person who thrives on challenge, and she often feels that she must battle her way through life, relying on no one and nothing but her own strength, intelligence and courage. Selena believes in being totally honest, true to herself and her own vision and convictions, even if it means standing alone. Honesty, integrity, personal honor and authenticity are Selena's gods, and she has no sympathy for weakness of character in others.
Selena craves the freedom to do things in her own way, and she works very well independently. Cooperating with others or carrying out another's will is not her style. Selena likes to be the chief - or to go it alone.
Selena loves action and if others are settling down into a nice, comfortable little rut, then she is always ready to stir things up, do something new, make changes and introduce some fresh blood. She is not satisfied with the personal sphere alone; her ambitions include making a major contribution and receiving broad recognition for her unique effort and gifts. Selena may undervalue the personal or inner facet of life.
Selena tends to see things from her perspective only and to be rather subjective. She also enjoys talking and expressing her views but does not always listen as well. Selena has a clear mind, a love of learning and new experiences, and she needs constant mental stimulation and activity.
She is prone to fanaticism and cannot go halfway in anything she does. Her extremism may seem (and actually be) obsessive and somewhat blind. That is, Selena does not always consciously understand why she feels as driven or intense about a given course of action as she does. She is a bit impulsive and excitable and wants things done quickly. Selena tends to be very impatient with anyone who is slower or less energetic than she is. Selena will fight for what she wants but should guard against mishaps or accidents.
