Salman Khan's fundamental needs, values, and orientation towards life are symbolized by the four astrological elements. Each person has their own unique balance of these four basic energies: fire (warmth, inspiration, enthusiasm), earth (practicality, realism, material interests), air (social and intellectual qualities), and water (emotional needs and feelings).

Khan's "elemental make-up" is described below. Remember that most people are "unbalanced" or lopsided, and if Salman is lacking or deficient in a certain element (or elements), it simply means that he needs to consciously develop that particular aspect in order to appreciate and/or work harder in that dimension of life.

Salman Khan has a great capacity to relate to, appreciate and understand different people and points of view, and he tends to be quite liberal in his attitudes. He is primarily a thinking person who requires much intellectual and social stimulation, conversation and interaction. Salman Khan comprehends abstract reasoning and concepts very quickly and he likes ideas, language and culture. Khan cannot imagine being happy in a world without books, films or interesting relationships.

There is an androgynous quality to Salman, and he relates equally well to men and women, having both male and female characteristics in nearly equal measure within himself. Salman Khan tends to see someone as a person first, rather than as a woman or a man.

Friendship is very important to his sense of well-being. Salman Khan thrives on camaraderie, teamwork, social endeavor and sharing. However, he is also quite objective about them and there is often an impersonal touch to his relationships with others.

His mind is Khan's real gift: thinking clearly, logically and creatively, planning and organizing efficiently, and communicating intelligently. However, Salman Khan tends to "live in his head" - reading about, talking about, and observing life without becoming completely immersed in it. Salman should avoid becoming a dabbler. He also needs to foster constancy, stability, and depth.

As described in Chapter 3, Salman Khan has a conservative, down-to-earth, and practical focus in life. So, while he will entertain numerous theories and listen to many people's points of view, Khan always comes back to what is real, solid, and proven in his own experience.

As you will read in the next chapter, Salman Khan actually comes across to others as intuitive and empathic, but (as indicated here) he is quite capable of being cool and impartial - more so than he might seem.
