Rose Mary Woods
Rose Mary has two very different sides to her. Sometimes she is the playful, curious child described in the previous chapter while at others she is the serious, detached adult. Few people can vacillate between these two extremes to the extent that Rose Mary does. In fact her detachment and objectivity is evident even when she is joking. If she loses touch with her lighter, playful side (possibly in later life), Rose Mary Woods will become increasingly bitter and cynical. Her deeply conservative nature (discussed below) holds her restlessness in check, and she is actually less willing to bend than one would imagine based on her initial appearance.
Serious, disciplined and quietly ambitious, she is driven to prove herself and to achieve material accomplishments and success. Her work, her position in the world, and her contributions to society are very important to Woods. Rose Mary Woods will persevere through enormous hardship and frustration in order to reach a goal she has set for herself, and she often sacrifices much in the area of personal relationships and home life in order to do so.
Rose Mary Woods has a thoughtful, quiet and self-contained disposition and does not readily show her inner feelings and needs. Rose Mary Woods seems to always be in control, capable, efficient and strong. She is often the person in the family or group who is given more responsibility (and more work) than the others. She is highly conscientious and even as a child she possessed great maturity, soberness, and worldly wisdom.
She is basically a pragmatic realist, and though she may have all sorts of dreams, ideals and colorful theories, she feels that the ultimate test of a concept is its practical usefulness. Rose Mary has an innate shrewdness and business sense, and there is a bit of the cynic in her as well.
She is clear-headed, detached and objective, and is not swayed by emotional dramatics. She is often authoritarian - strictly fair, but without mercy. Rose Mary Woods has a great respect for tradition and even if she does not agree with certain laws, she will abide by them or strive to change them, but never flagrantly disregard them. Cautious and conservative, Rose Mary Woods plays by the rules.
She is subtle, understated, quiet, deep, not easy to get to know intimately, and never superficial. She is a modest person and sometimes overly self-critical. Giving herself (and others) permission to feel, play, be spontaneous and silly, and sometimes weak and vulnerable is not easy for Woods.
Woods' strong points are her depth and thoroughness, patience, tenacity and faithfulness. Her faults are a tendency to be rigid and inflexible, and too serious.
Rose Mary Woods invests a tremendous amount of her creative energy into her relationships with others, particularly her marriage or other close partnerships. Rose Mary feels that she needs others in order to be all that she can be, and she is disinclined to solitary activities and endeavors.
Working with people on a one-to-one basis to bring about mutual understanding, harmony, and satisfaction is an area in which Rose Mary Woods can really excel. Counseling or negotiating are talents of hers.
Woods occasionally gamble, splurge, or overextend herself in ways that may be quite at odds with her usual way of doing things. Exaggerating her accomplishments or spending too much in order to impress others and build up her own self-esteem can be a problem. However, Rose Mary Woods also has faith and an optimistic side, which enable her to recover from the negative consequences of her excesses, and to learn from them.
Rose Mary Woods tends to be very impressionable and psychically open, and as a youngster, she could have been dominated in her relationships with more forceful personalities. Afraid of confrontation, Woods may have become passive, identified herself as a helpless victim, or tried to gain her desires in underhanded ways.
Rose Mary's hypersensitivity to her environment is apt to be a challenge for her in other ways as well. Pollutants, ugliness, or dissonance in any form is apt to affect Rose Mary Woods more than most people.
She is infused with a sense of personal destiny or mission and can be extremely driven, obsessed and fanatical. Learning about power and how to use it effectively is definitely on her agenda. Rose Mary Woods confronts abusive power, tyranny and dominating people who will teach her about power and eventually force Woods to claim her own.
She is creative and talented, but must develop self-discipline to channel her energies productively. Rose Mary Woods may feel that everything is going to be all right, that she cannot lose and may take risks by gambling or speculating, which could result in disappointments.
