Ricky has two very different sides to him. Sometimes he is the playful, curious child described in the previous chapter while at others he is the serious, detached adult. Few people can vacillate between these two extremes to the extent that Ricky does. In fact his detachment and objectivity is evident even when he is joking. If he loses touch with his lighter, playful side (possibly in later life), Ricky Martin will become increasingly bitter and cynical. His deeply conservative nature (discussed below) holds his restlessness in check, and he is actually less willing to bend than one would imagine based on his initial appearance.
Serious, disciplined and quietly ambitious, he is driven to prove himself and to achieve material accomplishments and success. His work, his position in the world, and his contributions to society are very important to Martin. Ricky Martin will persevere through enormous hardship and frustration in order to reach a goal he has set for himself, and he often sacrifices much in the area of personal relationships and home life in order to do so.
Ricky Martin has a thoughtful, quiet and self-contained disposition and does not readily show his inner feelings and needs. Ricky Martin seems to always be in control, capable, efficient and strong. He is often the person in the family or group who is given more responsibility (and more work) than the others. He is highly conscientious and even as a child he possessed great maturity, soberness, and worldly wisdom.
He is basically a pragmatic realist, and though he may have all sorts of dreams, ideals and colorful theories, he feels that the ultimate test of a concept is its practical usefulness. Ricky has an innate shrewdness and business sense, and there is a bit of the cynic in him as well.
He is clear-headed, detached and objective, and is not swayed by emotional dramatics. He is often authoritarian - strictly fair, but without mercy. Ricky Martin has a great respect for tradition and even if he does not agree with certain laws, he will abide by them or strive to change them, but never flagrantly disregard them. Cautious and conservative, Ricky Martin plays by the rules.
He is subtle, understated, quiet, deep, not easy to get to know intimately, and never superficial. He is a modest person and sometimes overly self-critical. Giving himself (and others) permission to feel, play, be spontaneous and silly, and sometimes weak and vulnerable is not easy for Martin.
Martin's strong points are his depth and thoroughness, patience, tenacity and faithfulness. His faults are a tendency to be rigid and inflexible, and too serious.
Ricky Martin invests a tremendous amount of his creative energy into his relationships with others, particularly his marriage or other close partnerships. Ricky feels that he needs others in order to be all that he can be, and he is disinclined to solitary activities and endeavors.
Working with people on a one-to-one basis to bring about mutual understanding, harmony, and satisfaction is an area in which Ricky Martin can really excel. Counseling or negotiating are talents of his.
Ricky Martin often feels that he is at cross purposes with himself, for his conscious intentions and desires conflict with his subconscious emotional needs and drives. He is torn in two different directions. Ricky has difficulty satisfying both his need to be an individual and his need for caring relationships and a sense of belonging. Moreover, Ricky sends out mixed messages so people do not always know how to respond to him or what Ricky really wants, thereby creating confusion or conflict in close relationships.
He is direct, energetic, sometimes aggressive and combative. Ricky Martin often feels that he needs to fight to get what he wants, and he tends to have a "me-first" attitude that angers or irritates others. He is hasty, restless, impatient and sometimes reckless.
While Ricky Martin does have a lot of drive, he frequently holds himself back. Learning to endure frustration and to patiently overcome the obstacles in his life (or his own internal caution and resistance!) is one of his tasks.
Ricky has to overcome considerable hardship in order to fulfill his personal destiny. However, he does have the strength and stamina necessary to do so. Support and helpful guidance from his father or other significant men in his life may well be lacking. In fact, their disapproval of Ricky and their harsh criticism are apt to be two of his greatest handicaps, and at times he may feel quite discouraged and alone. But true self-reliance and a solid sense of his own powers may well be the silver lining to that cloud in his life. Ricky Martin needs to learn to follow his own creative impulses and heart's desires, regardless of what his critics or the authorities say.
He is intensely willful, zealous, and fanatical though Ricky often hides the intensity of his feelings and his personal motives and desires. Martin is infatuated with power and has an almost compulsive desire for personal recognition and the desire to be "somebody". Ricky Martin tends to worship heroes who have powerful personal magnetism and charisma and often seeks to emulate them. Ricky Martin both fears, and is intensely fascinated with, death and the hidden, secret, dark side of life.
His emotions are very intense and Ricky Martin is excited quite easily. Love is very important to him and he is constantly seeking emotional fulfillment, but he will not waste time with casual relationships.
Ricky Martin has a pleasant and dreamy disposition with considerable romantic imagination. Ricky has a strong longing for love, but he does not see others very clearly and may experience many disappointments in his emotional relationships.
