Though Olympia Dukakis seems rather cautious and conservative (as discussed in the previous chapter), she has a much more playful, humorous side as well. Moreover, the combination of her attention to detail and cautious, circumspect approach to life, coupled with her youthful curiosity and quick mind makes Olympia mentally sharp, articulate and clever.

Olympia Dukakis is, in many ways, an eternal child. Her mind is bright, alert, curious, flexible, playful and always eager for new experiences - and her attention span is often quite brief.
