Nancy Allen motivation
Nancy Allen seems much more objective, unemotional and matter-of-fact than she really is. Despite her fussiness and perfectionism (described in the previous chapter), she is actually very caring and loving. Nancy Allen needs to make sure to openly express her feelings because otherwise, others do not realize how much she cares about them.
Nancy has powerful emotional attachments to the past, her family, her childhood, places she associates with safety and security, and her beginnings. It is very important to Allen to maintain a connection with her roots and heritage and keep family bonds strong. Loyal, devoted, and sentimental, Allen tends to cling to whatever is dear to her - be it a person, a familiar place, or a cherished possession.
She is sympathetic, nurturing, supportive and very sensitive to the emotional needs of other people. Nancy likes to be needed and to care for others, and she often worries about the people she loves. Nancy Allen has a very strong need for a sense of belonging and acceptance, and much of her life centers on her home. She is more concerned about people and their feelings than with power, achievement, or position in society. Kindness, consideration and tenderness are more meaningful to Nancy Allen than any sort of honor the world can bestow.
She is primarily emotional and her views are often dominated by her feelings and her own personal, subjective experiences, rather than reason, logic or abstract principles. It is difficult for her to judge situations fairly and objectively because her personal sympathies and loyalties usually factor in. Nancy Allen takes things very personally and sometimes builds a wall around herself to shield herself from pain and rejection. Nancy Allen feels rather shy and vulnerable at heart. She also tends to be moody and experiences frequent mood swings. Nancy Allen needs to have a place and time in her life to withdraw, introspect, dream and replenish herself; otherwise Nancy Allen becomes cranky and unhappy with those around her.
Nancy Allen functions in an instinctive, irrational manner and likes to immerse herself in creative activities where she can express her feelings, imagination and instincts. Allen often loves to cook, since it can be both creative and a way to nurture and nourish others. Nancy Allen also has a great affinity for music, because it evokes and communicates feelings that may be difficult or impossible to put into words.
Her compassion, sensitivity, and imagination are Allen's strong points. Her faults include an inability to let go of the past and move forward, clannishness and prejudice, and a tendency for self-pity when facing hardship.
Her career, reputation, and public image are very important to Allen. Nancy Allen has a strong desire to be influential or make her mark on the world. The merely personal sphere does not satisfy her; her ambitions include making a major contribution and receiving broad recognition for her unique effort and gifts. Nancy Allen may undervalue the personal or inner side of life.
Allen occasionally gamble, splurge, or overextend herself in ways that may be quite at odds with her usual way of doing things. Exaggerating her accomplishments or spending too much in order to impress others and build up her own self-esteem can be a problem. However, Nancy Allen also has faith and an optimistic side, which enable her to recover from the negative consequences of her excesses, and to learn from them.
However she also has a more somber side, which keeps Allen's optimism from becoming ungrounded or overblown. Nancy Allen tends to seesaw between her faith, vision and high aspirations, and her caution and realism (or fear!). She cannot and does not rely on good luck or grace alone, and she accepts the need for hard work. Her skeptical or "somber" side is described below.
Nancy Allen has a healthy amount of self-control and self-discipline. Allen also radiates a rather responsible, trustworthy, solid feeling about herself which will win her the confidence of others, especially her superiors.
Although she takes herself and her responsibilities seriously, there is also a part of Nancy Allen that rebels against rules and restrictions and the need to contend with outside authority. Allen can feel torn between conforming to the rules or fulfilling her obligations, and breaking free of them. Her wilder side will now be described.
Innovative, original, unorthodox and unconventional, she identifies with the role of a rebel, reformer or iconoclast. Nancy Allen insists upon a great deal of personal freedom and does not easily adapt to others' needs and wishes. Nancy needs a lifestyle that allows her to be spontaneous. She often feels that she is somehow different from other people and outside of society's mainstream.
Allen always seems to find the right words to verbalize her feelings, especially in regard to love and friendship. Nancy Allen also has a keen sense of beauty and she probably appreciates art, music or poetry.
