Marquis de Sade motivation
Though Marquis de Sade appears rather intense, quiet and enigmatic at first (as mentioned in the previous chapter), he is really quite friendly, sociable and interested in people. He may sometimes feel torn between getting deeply involved emotionally and staying light, free and unencumbered.
Marquis de Sade is, in many ways, an eternal child. His mind is bright, alert, curious, flexible, playful and always eager for new experiences - and his attention span is often quite brief. Marquis de Sade grasps ideas quickly and once his initial curiosity has been satisfied, he is ready to move on. Marquis de Sade craves frequent change and variety, as well as new situations and people.
It may be hard for Marquis de Sade to decide just where his talents and true vocation lie, for he has a multitude of interests and is loathe limiting himself by concentrating on just one. He is easily distracted by all of the other fascinating possibilities. His curiosity and restlessness propel de Sade toward many different experiences in life, and he is willing to taste or try anything once. Doing the same thing over and over again, even if it is something he does well, is tantamount to drudgery for Marquis de Sade.
Marquis de Sade lives in his head a great deal - reading, observing, thinking, spinning ideas around - and he needs mental stimulation every bit as much as he needs food and drink. In fact, if de Sade had to choose between a good book or movie and a good lunch, he would very likely choose the former. Marquis de Sade has a creative mind and he often lives by his wits.
He is also a very social creature, with a strong need to communicate and interact with people. He enjoys using and playing with words and has a real flair for getting his ideas across in a clever, interesting, articulate manner. Writing and/or speaking are areas he has talent for.
Marquis de Sade also has a rather lighthearted and mischievous sense of humor, and often does not take anything too seriously. Though he craves emotional involvement, it is hard for Marquis de Sade to achieve it, for he is frequently unwilling to commit himself to anything, to take responsibility or to limit his personal freedom and mobility.
His happiness lies in using his creativity and language skills to communicate something meaningful, teach, inspire, or bring people together. de Sade has an unbiased mind and can usually offer a fresh, clear, uncluttered perspective. His faults are his lack of constancy and persistence, and his tendency to overlook or ignore deep emotional issues and other people's feelings.
Marquis de Sade craves intense experiences and is attracted to aspects of life that are strange, unfathomable or taboo. de Sade may hide his interests or inclinations, except from those who know him very intimately. Marquis de Sade is rarely content with himself and his life, and he has an inner urge to continually delve deeper than ever before. de Sade is also highly interested in social power and the role that money and economics play in people's lives.
Marquis de Sade often feels that he is at cross purposes with himself, for his conscious intentions and desires conflict with his subconscious emotional needs and drives. He is torn in two different directions. de Sade has difficulty satisfying both his need to be an individual and his need for caring relationships and a sense of belonging. Moreover, de Sade sends out mixed messages so people do not always know how to respond to him or what de Sade really wants, thereby creating confusion or conflict in close relationships.
He is blessed with abundant optimism, self-confidence and cheerful generosity. His good will and friendliness win him many allies. Marquis de Sade also has grand visions and aspirations, and the desire to succeed in life in a big way. de Sade expects the best, and usually gets it.
At times Marquis de Sade may feel an uncontrollable urge to radically alter his direction in life or to act in ways that seem eccentric or at least highly atypical. When his life becomes too predictable, de Sade may do something to upset the status quo, sometimes without realizing why or how he is doing it. These impulses may seem at odds with his conscious intent and desires for himself, and can be unsettling. However, there is a streak of unconventionality and creative genius in Marquis de Sade that needs to be expressed now and then.
He is very receptive and sensitive but has a tendency to over-idealize, making his approach to love relationships, romance or marriage somewhat unrealistic. Marquis de Sade also tends to be a bit absent-minded and naive, leaving himself open for being taken, swindled or lied to.
Both sensitive and sensuous, de Sade blends charm and energy. Marquis de Sade has a healthy sexuality and a good balance between activity and passivity. He may be fond of singing, dancing, music and drama. Romance comes easily to de Sade, and his romantic relationships are passionate.
Marquis de Sade has a restless and somewhat nervous manner and he attracts attention through his initiative and originality. He is drawn to unusual friends and acquaintances, and because of his confidence may be regarded as a leader in his sphere.
