Karl Marx' fundamental needs, values, and orientation towards life are symbolized by the four astrological elements. Each person has their own unique balance of these four basic energies: fire (warmth, inspiration, enthusiasm), earth (practicality, realism, material interests), air (social and intellectual qualities), and water (emotional needs and feelings).

Marx' "elemental make-up" is described below. Remember that most people are "unbalanced" or lopsided, and if Karl is lacking or deficient in a certain element (or elements), it simply means that he needs to consciously develop that particular aspect in order to appreciate and/or work harder in that dimension of life.

Sometimes we overestimate the element that we are least endowed with, sensing it as a lack within ourselves, but more often we neglect or ignore it. The qualities described below will be reiterated and explained in more detail in the following pages.

He is prone to underestimate rather than overestimate his own abilities and worth, and his humility leads him to settle for much less than he really wants and is capable of. Karl Marx may think of himself as ordinary, dull or unexciting for he does not like to take risks and he values safety and security over adventure and stability over change.

Karl Marx does everything in a premeditated, orderly fashion and tends to be rather serious. Marx' responsible, rational and adult aspect is quite strong while his spontaneous, carefree and childlike side is less developed. Karl can be "all work and no play". Fostering self-confidence, enthusiasm, joy, generosity and a bigger picture of what life is all about is important to Marx.

Physically, Karl Marx is apt to get cold rather easily and may find eating spicy foods, exercising vigorously and being out in the sunshine helpful.

Although fundamentally realistic, with a definite conservative bent, Karl Marx comes across as rather liberal and open-minded, as you will read in the next chapter. His apparent tolerance for varying points of view is limited, however, to those that seem well-grounded and workable to him.
