Judy Lewis' fundamental needs, values, and orientation towards life are symbolized by the four astrological elements. Each person has their own unique balance of these four basic energies: fire (warmth, inspiration, enthusiasm), earth (practicality, realism, material interests), air (social and intellectual qualities), and water (emotional needs and feelings).
Lewis' "elemental make-up" is described below. Remember that most people are "unbalanced" or lopsided, and if Judy is lacking or deficient in a certain element (or elements), it simply means that she needs to consciously develop that particular aspect in order to appreciate and/or work harder in that dimension of life.
Sometimes we overestimate the element that we are least endowed with, sensing it as a lack within ourselves, but more often we neglect or ignore it. The qualities described below will be reiterated and explained in more detail in the following pages.
Judy Lewis is ruled by her emotions and feelings and easily influenced by her moods and the feelings of those around her. Because she is so sensitive to her environment, Judy Lewis needs to be in an atmosphere that is positive and relatively free of psychic influences. Failing that, Lewis absorbs the negative vibes and ends up feeling badly herself. Highly sympathetic, Judy readily senses what others feel inside (whether they express it or not), and this deep emotional rapport can be both a gift and a curse: she can get extremely close to those she cares for, however Judy Lewis also feels other people's feelings so strongly that she perceives their emotions or problems as her own. Learning to distinguish the boundaries between herself and others is important. Furthermore, Judy Lewis needs to respect these boundaries; other people may need more personal, separate space than she does. Her tendency is to want to merge with the ones she loves, which can be interpreted as demanding or smothering by people with less of a need and capacity for emotional closeness. Her sensitivity and compassion and imaginative faculties are highly developed, and Judy Lewis may find it difficult to communicate everything she feels in logical, rational terms. Words seem inadequate, and the language of touch or music or visual imagery may come much more naturally to her.
Unless she has astrological energies that indicate otherwise, Judy Lewis is prone to be rather passive, possibly lazy, and also quite sensual. Weight problems are very possible.
Fortunately, as you will read in the next chapter, Judy Lewis does have an active, spirited way of expressing herself, which helps her overcome her tendency towards indolence. She picks herself up and keeps going after being emotionally bruised. She is a survivor. Judy Lewis can become very angry when frustrated, so she should try and find ways to vent anger when necessary.
