Though Joseph Smith seems quite soft and sympathetic (as mentioned in the previous chapter), deep down, he is very hardheaded and practical and Smith can be surprisingly cool and impassive. He is caring, but at the same time rather detached and unemotional. Joseph Smith has a knack for understanding others because he can empathize with them without getting "sucked into" their problems and concerns. For this reason, he is a good parent. Joseph can also be very shrewd in business because he can sense what others want and is clever at finding ways to market products or services that people want.
