Although Joseph Liouville enjoys conversing and interacting with people (as mentioned in the previous chapter), he also has a self-reliant, independent spirit. Liouville can go it alone if need be because Joseph Liouville likes to be a free agent. He likes to exchange ideas, but as stated below, he does not always listen.

He is a person who thrives on challenge, and he often feels that he must battle his way through life, relying on no one and nothing but his own strength, intelligence and courage. Joseph Liouville believes in being totally honest, true to himself and his own vision and convictions, even if it means standing alone. Honesty, integrity, personal honor and authenticity are Liouville's gods, and he has no sympathy for weakness of character in others.

Joseph Liouville craves the freedom to do things in his own way, and he works very well independently. Cooperating with others or carrying out another's will is not his style. Joseph likes to be the chief - or to go it alone.

Joseph Liouville loves action and if others are settling down into a nice, comfortable little rut, then he is always ready to stir things up, do something new, make changes and introduce some fresh blood. Routine and sameness are tantamount to death for him. He is able to tackle long, difficult projects and see them through, for Liouville possesses self-discipline, concentration and perseverance. Joseph Liouville also has a strong sense of responsibility and is very conscientious about fulfilling his obligations. Liouville often does things because he feels it is expected of him.

While he is realistic and conscientious (or overly conscientious), as described above, Joseph Liouville also has an otherworldly, dreamy, or mystically-inclined side, as described below.

He is imaginative and sensitive to anything colorful, beautiful or magical. He is attracted to artistic and creative pursuits, music and mysticism. His spiritual values color Joseph's whole perspective and approach to life. He is idealistic and perhaps impractical.
