John Kerry motivation
Many of the traits described in Chapter 2 are emphasized again below. His enthusiasm and outgoing, forward-looking nature is a gift, but John Kerry should also be wary of the tendency to overlook details and be oblivious to others' personal feelings.
He is a gambler and an adventurer at heart, one who loves to take risks, to discover and explore new worlds, and to travel the untried path rather than the safe, reliable one. He is independent, freedom loving, and often very restless. He needs a lifestyle that provides opportunities for travel, movement, change, and meeting new people. A steady routine, which offers much in the way of security but little in the way of space and freedom, is odious to him.
To John Kerry, life is a journey and an adventure that is endlessly interesting and rich with possibilities, and it may be difficult for him to decide where to focus his attention and efforts. John Kerry probably traveled around and experimented with many different paths before he settled on a particular career. Or he may go from one project to the next, for once the challenge and vital interest is gone, he is very quick to move on. Commitment, discipline, focus and concentration are not his strong points. Kerry can be irresponsible and disinclined to take on the burdens and limitations of adult life.
An incurable optimist, he has big dreams, aspirations and hopes for the future and is usually engaged in pursuing a far-off goal. John Kerry has a great deal of faith and trust in life and failures do not crush his spirit. Kerry always bounces back from disappointments, often with another bright dream or scheme. John Kerry has a sporting, playful attitude toward life and he is philosophical about his mistakes. John has the ability to sense future trends, to see the big picture, and he likes to theorize and speculate. However, he gets annoyed with all the details and practical requirements required to implement his theories.
Kerry expresses himself in a very open, direct and straightforward manner and is often blunt and tactless as well. Because he does not take himself too seriously, he may not realize how deeply his candid statements can wound more sensitive souls. In fact, though he may not realize it, John's insensitivity and lack of understanding regarding others' feelings is probably one of his worst faults.
John Kerry enjoys being in close relationships but also needs freedom and he does not do well with a possessive, clinging, or emotionally demanding partner. He is quite generous, and heartily dislikes pettiness in others. Someone who shares his ideals, his sense of fun and his zest for life would be the right companion for Kerry.
John Kerry has a clear sense of his own self and he therefore conveys a strong impression to others of who he is and what he wants. Assertive and self-motivated, Kerry can be a leader - one whom others look to for direction - but he competes and often clash with other strong individuals. John Kerry feels a need to be in control of his own life and he can be too self-involved, too immersed in his own interests, and oblivious to others at times.
His conscious intentions and goals are frequently opposed by his unconscious beliefs and desires. If John Kerry overrides his instincts and emotions because they seem to lead him in a direction diametrically opposed to the one he consciously desires, his emotions can become unruly. Poor relationships with women and/or difficulties in close one-on-one relationships are also a reflection of this tendency. However, if John Kerry attends to his emotional urges and feelings and listens to the voice of his intuition, dreams and gut feelings, he will derive greater satisfaction from a more balanced life.
He may have had a demanding and perfectionist or absent father. In any case, a lack of support and approval, a great deal of responsibility at an early age and an underlying feeling that he can never quite measure up may hold Kerry back. While he may encounter a great deal of adversity and struggle alone through many of life's trials, this makes John Kerry tough and determined. However, Kerry should beware of becoming cynical, too hard on himself, and too demanding and critical of others.
